I am running 17x8 Mille Miglia MM11's with 245/45-17 tires. They are for sale with all the info, in the classifieds. I ran 3mm spacers on the back, nothing in the front. Offset's listed in the ad, I think.

would an 18" x 7" rim, with +40mm offset and 235/40/18 tires work well with intrax springs, and koni struts?? how about rubbing issues? do i need to recalibrate the speedo?? will it mess with the abs??

Absolutely NOT!!!

The tire is way to wide for the rim. A 235/40 tire requires an 8" rim, though many use 7.5" rims. But even a 7.5" rim comprimises the sidewall stiffness of the 235/40 tire. Trust me on this one. I'm speaking from experience. And I only had 235/45 tires on a 7.5" rim. It sucked donkey. Yours will be even worse.

On a 7" rim, the ideal choice would be 215/45. Optionally, but not optimally, you can squeeze in an 225/45 tire.

It amazes me how sensitive a cars handling is to the tire-rim combination. The fact is that for a given rim width, you're really stuck in what tire width you can put on. You really only have one optimal choice...sometimes two choices if the optimal tire width is right in between two [available] tire widths, e.g. if the optimal tire width is ~240mm you can go with either a 235 or 245 which would be true for an 8" rim.

But if you do decide to put the 235 tire on your 7" rim, I would think you should be ok with the speedo, though just be aware, IIRC, it will show that you're going 3-4% faster than you really are.

Rubbing should not be an issue in the front. In the rear, you may have some trouble with a Gen I wrt to the fender lip but not with a Gen II.

Intrax/Koni is an awesome combination. However, you won't notice how good this combo is in quick steering manuevers cause of the "floating" effect you'll experience with your too-wide-for-the-rim tires.

^^^FYI, many people here run 234/45/17s on their 7" wide wheels. It is true that 235 is too wide for 7" wheels, but no where close to the degree you're claiming.

235 tires on a 7" wide wheel is definetely okay.

Hello, I wonder if anyone knows if the Thunderbird SVT (Cobra Type) 5 spoke 17x7 wheels can be used on a Gen I without any modification or rubbing? I just picked up a like-new set with 245 50 tires but there would clearly be rubbing with those tires. I am hoping that with 215 50 tires they might work. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with those wheels on a Gen I? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I really like these wheels too. I always thought they were Cobra R wheels off of mustangs. Where can I find these Thunderbird SVT wheels at? I would like to get a set of white ones for one of my 91s.

dashley, I've never seen a set like that on any generation SHO. It looks kind of similar to the slicer design, but the "spokes" are too thin.

wheels question/opinion

From what I've read here, I should have no trouble running 235/45/17 tires on 7.5" rims. However - The guy from Tire Rack says the fenders will need to be rolled, and the "speedo difference" calculator warns against going more than 3% from stock. Should I be worried? I've been running 225/55/16 on the stock rims since the original tires wore out with less than 20,000, and have had no problems. I decided it's finally time for a wheel and tire upgrade. What do you think of these rims? They're not what I'd put on a sportier car, but my black 5-speed has always been a sleeper, so I don't want anything too flashy. Does anyone have experience with Goodyear Eagle F1 all season tires?
Thanks.

wheels

Tire Rack says 225/50/17, but I wanted a little wider than I have now. The wheel offset is same as stock, 42mm. Does the offset need to change for wider wheels?
