I would also check to make sure the 205/45-17 has the load capacity for the SHO. Load rating for the stock tires is 94 which translates to 1477lbs per tire.

I'm running 235/55-R16 on my stock slicers. A very little rubbing on the wheel well. But 235s looks way too wide for these rims.

probably because the person who listed them used them as a track tire only and only had input on track use

I just put some aftermarket rims on my 93 with 225/45/17 tires on and it looks like i had room to put 18's on it. on the internet there is a place that will tell you the height of tires on rims.my stock 16" inch rims with 225/55/16 tires were taller than what i just put on.with 18" rims with 225/45/18 would have been .100 of an inch taller than the stock.

Thundebird SVT Wheels on Gen I?

Hello, I wonder if anyone knows if the Thunderbird SVT (Cobra Type) 5 spoke 17x7 wheels can be used on a Gen I without any modification or rubbing? I just picked up a like-new set with 245 50 tires but there would clearly be rubbing with those tires. I am hoping that with 215 50 tires they might work. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with those wheels on a Gen I? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

shouldn't be, but why put smaller tires on the car?

Stock size is 225, go down some on the sidewall and you should be ok..

Has anyone tries the Potenza's 225/50/16 extreme? I need some serious traction.
If you need serious traction, then you need serious competition tires such as Kumho Victoracer or Yokohama A032.

I'm guessing here, but it's probably because they spedometer will show a 5.2% TOO HIGH reading. The good thing about this is 1) you think your car runs and accellerates faster than it really does, and 2) your chance of getting a speeding ticket is reduced....

The very popular tire, 235/45/17, only reads the speed 3.3% too high.

IMO, one of the most practical and best performing tires is the 235/40/18 because
1) it only reads the speed 3.0% too high,
2) it has the most practical width (245 will generally not work on the rear and sticks out beyond the fender in the front),
3) has better steering response (assuming you mount it on 8" or larger rims), and
4) it looks awesome (not too much tire showing and not too little either).

17x8" specifically

Who all is running the 8" wide 17's? What size tires are you running and how does it ride? What offset is usual for the 8's? I'm thinking around +38mm?
This is a Gen I and will most likely have a stock suspension, I already have a race car and don't need another one...

I have 17X8 OZ Racing Superleggra offset 35. I had to roll the rear fenders for the 235/45WR-17 to clear. I still have some rubbing when the suspension is compressed. I have SHO Shop Linear springs and Koni Shocks. The ride is firm.

Excellent, thanks Bob!
I'm also looking at a really, really nice set in a 17x7.5" with an offset of +49mm. It's looking like I should use anywhere from +5 to a +10mm spacer to make these work correctly.
Thanks a bunch!
