So after posting and searching on a code I have (code 81) all indications point to something related to the IMRC. After running some tests it is beginning to look like the solenoid is bad. So I went to a Ford dealership and asked them what one would cost and the guy said it has been discontinued. :squint: Has anyone else heard this or is this guy wrong? If he is right, aside from locating one in a junk yard, does anyone know where else I can locate one?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Your best bet to find one would be to check what big letter is on it and post a WTB in the WTB section of this forum or go searching wrecking yards.

Thanks for the info. As odd as this may sound where is this big letter you refer too? I pulled that IMRC and did see any letters on there.

Can anyone else confirm if this part has been discontinued by Ford or whomever makes it for them (motorcraft)? I ran the vacuum tube from the controls on the secondaries directly to the intake port bypassing the IMRC and that other black cylinder mounted on the engine near the firewall and they closed when car started. So I guess that confirms it is a bad IMRC correct?

Sounds like you're looking for the solenoid that controls the secondaries. Marcel is thinking of the iRCM aka relay box...

You should be ab leto use an IRCM solenoid from just about anything as long as either the connector matches or you splice the old one in.

I''l look into this in the morning.

Steve,

That is exactly what I am looking for and any additional information you can provide would be great. You had actually posted in reply to one of my previous post and pointed to this being the culprit. I first went to Pep Boys and they said I would have to go to dealership to get the part (the seemed know what I was talking about though). But the dealership told me they couldn't get it.

If possible, I would rather not have to splice wires. Do you know if this part is the same in all Gen 1 & 2's? At worst I'm hoping I could try and locate a SHO in a graveyard.

Thanks!

No Problem!

I thought maybe I had been looking or asked for the wrong part. Good to know I'm not crazy, at least in regards to this.

Went to a junkyard near work today at lunch and they had a Gen II (although they were unaware of it). The car still had its IMRC so I pulled it out as it appeared to be exactly the same as mine including the connector. However after I installed it the secondaries still will not close at idle . I'm hoping it is just another bad IMRC as the car had almost 300,000 miles on it but does anyone know if maybe they are not compatible?

Since you have both a code 81 and know the vacuum motors aren't working, I'd suggest checking the harness wiring and the PCM itself.

You can double-check the solenoid's reisitance to check for open/short circuits.

Hey Steve,

I did do some testing at the harness. The red wire is getting @12v. On the other wire (don't' remember the color) the needle moved slightly when the car was on, which sounded right from the info I found searching. What I haven't checked is what happens on that second wire after the car is run up to 4000 RPM and the solenoid resistance. For the later do you know if that should be around 80-100 ohms (again what I found when searching)? I guess that if this range is correct and the solenoid is reading something else then it is bad, correct?

As far as the PCM goes, where do I find this? Again I did some searching but what I found really didn't' help me. Once I find this, what should I be looking for on it?

Sorry to be a PITA but I do appreciate all the help guys. Thanks.

I should follow this thread as I may have similar issues with my idle which I can never get to idle below 1000rpm! I haven't gotten a code for this however.

So I tested the resistance on the IMRC and it came at 73.3 ohms. Not sure whether that is good or bad. I'm wondering what to check on the PCM? If anyone can let me know I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
