We are having another live webcast on Pat's "Race SHO". We are swapping the transmission from the '91 to the '89. If you want to view the action go to http://67.176.88.169:1024/ .

For those wanting sound as well, open Windows Media to this URL, http://67.176.88.169:1025

The reason we are swapping the transmission is because the '91's gears have been shimmed tighter so they do not ride on the tips of the teeth when power is pushed through it. Now that there is a dedicated "race" car, it will be needing the shimmed tranny.

If you have any problems accessing the live feeds, post them here and we can work them out.

The people you are seeing are Pat (PanamaPat), Chris (AutoSHO), and Jason (yamahaSHO).

All I see is a SHO with an engine brace inside an empty (no people) garage.

Don't tell me you guys are taking a break already?

Heck of a radio station, though. :thumb: :salute:

We've got the transmission out of the race car now, and discovered some more of Vadim's high-quality handiwork... A 9.25" clutch disc in a 9.75" Pressure plate and flywheel. We also discovered that the pressure plate has a bent strap - although it only has maybe 3,000 miles on it.

Stay tuned for pulling apart some of the street SHO.

I was thinking about this and it could be argued that this is a really cheesy way to reduce the rotating Moment of Inertia and increase the clamping psi at the same time. Not that the clutch disk weighs much anyway. :nut:

I'd think you'd save a lot more MI just shaving a half pound off the flywheel.

BTW, if any of you guys ever get down this way stop by the Penske Racing Museum (yes, it's free admission). Many of their winning cars are there and examples of the engines out on stands so you can see whassup. All of them that I saw had the clutch packs still on them: multi-disk with a max diameter of the whole assembly of about 5". Tiny little buggers, very low MI but still lots of surface area with multiple disks. Perty kewl...looks like they've been doing that sort of thing for a long time, too.

BTW - with the above link, while there is no sound, it does give you the ability to move the camera around and zoom in.

Once you choose the link, then click on Live Pictures, and wait for 30+ seconds for the java app to load up. Once there, you can click anywhere on the screen and the camera will move to that spot. You can digitally zoom in too with the +/- on the side of the screen.

The propane heater is warming up the garage (around 40 degrees now) and there should be some action out there in the next hour or so.

Progress - Tranny out of the track SHO, cleaned off sub-frame and tranny. Need to prep with a drain plug this morning before installing in street SHO. The Street SHO has the blower tubing/MAF out, y-pipe out, starter out, motor mounts and steering rack bolts out, lower control arms loosened. This morning will mount the jerry rigged wood engine support, drop the subframe, pull the tranny, clutch and flywheel. Will be interesting to see how well the IPT stage 4 clutch looks after several years of tracking on it. I'm impressed it has held up so well, longer than any clutch I've had.

Plan to get the street SHO back together today, having migrated the track SHO tranny over to it. Not sure the clutch will be migrated as it has, what looks like a bent strap. A shame as it is a brand new clutch.

We're putting a brand new SHO Shop Hi-Revs Race in the white car, and the IPT (Spec) Stage 4 into the race car. We also put the lightweight SHO Shop flywheel in the race SHO and the stock flywheel in the street car.
