first of all, BS is right about the performance enhancing button. My take is it obviously controls a very powerful electronic circut, or what has become a very powerful electronic circut because of a short that when activated by the switch causes some sort huge drain on the alternator. I bet if he leaves that switch on and idles it for a couple, unless he has a defective regulator, there's the answer. If you have access to VAT equiptment and know how to use it, that would get right to the bottom of this. This is not a stock thing, so what was legal in 1992, and all the other stuff is out the window.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but i'm still be willing to wager the DSM is the only affordable car with 20 free horsepower.

well, how about this. the guy had an aftermarket LPM on the car. the switch would take the car from running with the LPM on, and running with it off. I dont know. maybe he got better gas mileage with the LPM off. It would take a ridiculously huge power circuit to drop the idle by a couple hundred. but who knows. it could be anything. and he says he felt a slight performance gain when he hit it. so it cant be a **** switch, as he was obviosly driving the car.

I'd go with Random's Theory on this one. It sounds logical that if he had a noticable power increase after flipping the switch that it would be either NOS or CPU replacement. Since NOS has been ruled out, it would seem logical for the later. But taking the SHO to a proper mechanic to check it out or tearing ito the dash and tracing the wires would WE know the truth.

antenna booster switch maybe?????? We put one in my friends GMC Jimmy, we wired a switch to the antenna booster so that he didn't have to use it all the time, only when he needed it, and it is in his glove box......just a thought

Hmmmm. Mabye the switch that activates the air conditioning clutch went bad, and the "performance" switch is a cheap way to get around replacing parts of the a/c system?

It maybe a switch to de-activate the IAC if the idle speed goes down after you press the switch. It's an old trick that people used to do to bypass the IAC and manually set the idle speed. Not smart, but hey.
