ive been debating on getting H&R springs, but theres a kicker!

I want to just put the rear springs on and leave the front stock. My thinking is this will "level" the sho, and im wondering if anyone has tried this? The springs should lower the rear about 1.5 inches which to me seems like it will be about the same wheel gap thats in the front with stock springs.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the rear will be lower. I've read the lucky enough ones to get the eibachs you can do that with.

when I measured wheel gap there was about a 1" difference between the front and back. Check out this thread on how I leveled out the car. It requires cutting the rear springs. Some will say that's a no-no but i'm not trying to squeeze every ounce of handling out of the car. The car still rides like stock and it looks oh so much better.

I should have gone the cutting the spring route but I was scared. Went with the h&r's. Car looks damn good lowered but did sacrifice some ride quality

Nice write up and info, im super hesitant to cut springs but i may just do it. Car looks exactly like what im wanting.

Maybe i can buy a stock pair of springs and do this with them. Doesnt the Lincoln model of our car sit lower? Wonder if we can use their springs?

Maybe get a set of stock Taurus springs rather than the PP springs. The PP springs are stiff and don't settle as much as the standard spring set for the non-SHO Tauruses.

H&R Springs will be fine at all 4 corners! Funny, because I was wondering the exact same thing as you - I was actually OK with the height in the front but the rear looks like a fregin 4x4 pickup truck! But, I went H&R at all corners and I think it's perfect! The lighting is hard to tell in this pic, sorry - but the gap wheel/fender gap on the front and back is exactly the same!

Nice, i have a very steep driveway so im worried the HR would lower it to much.

On another note, are those the flower rims powder coated black? I was thinking about doing that or graphite.

Those are the fugly flower wheels. I actually sprayed them with Plasti Dip in black and then used Plasti Dip "Glossifier," to give them a shine. I like doing this for the winter time - really protects the wheels from all the salt & sand they throw down during the winter.

Thats a great idea to preserve rims at winter, luckily in texas i dont have to deal with that.

I liked them rims when i bought the car, then someone informed me they looked like flowers. now all i can see are flowers when i look at the car...

you cant cut the fronts because they're the wrong type on each end (squared). the rears you can only cut the bottom as the top of the spring is squared

92blackgt. I know it says 1/3 of the spring. Is there a better measurement you could give? 0.5" or so.

Why cut them? H&R is only like $200 on Tire Rack! Cutting them compromises the integrity of the spring - it'll make them weak especially if they get too hot where you cut them and create a bounce / pogo affect on the ride! Don't do it! Just my $0.02 worth.

The H&Rs are entirely too low for my taste, if these get messed up then ill buy some but im going to try this first.

Also when you get H&Rs the rear needs alignment which requires the purchase and install of other parts.

I read a post about cutting 1/3rd of a coil off of the bottom of the rear springs with pic's but now I can't find that post. Does anyone know where that post is ? OK, I found it under 92blackgt and my question to 92 is did you have to have an alignment after cutting the rear springs ?

So i cut off what looked like the same as in the writeup, so far the car has only dropped about a half inch im hoping it will settle and lower a bit more after a while. my current ride height in the rear is 30 3/4" when I started it was about 31 1/4". can one of you measure their stock setup and see if this sounds right?
