My 98 a few years back had an oil leaking issue somewhere on the top part of the engine, theres oil where you take off the V8 cover. A few months ago I put oil in it (8-9 months). Now i checked the dipstick and its very low again. What are the usual causes of this engine buring/leaking oil. It has a bad trans , i dont know if that as anythng to do with engine oil, its sitting now untill i get the money together. It has 86k on it and welded cams

You are staring down a dark ominous path which I traversed just about a year ago . . .

There is a good amount of information on this site with regards to doing this job yourself. You will save $400 - $600+ by doing so. If you read the link above, you'll see that I hit some snags upon reassembly and restart. These were mostly related to the fact that I had a parasitic draw on my battery coming from my radio/AC unit and that my alternator was borderline (radio/AC was the main culprit though).

If you have any car repair buddies, it would be wise to involve them with this project.
