Not only am i buying another SHOnut engine mount w/ new bolts but im also purchasing SHOshop tq. limiters. (Thanks to the advice of tyler) Would it also be possible/good idea to have two nuts at the end of each mount bolt? To make sure they dont come loose? Any other tips?

As a registered professional engineer who has seen the SHO Shop torque limiters in action, I would strongly recommend that you do not install them on your car. They are a poorly engineered design that places a great amount of force on components that were not designed to handle it. The massive motor mounts were designed to take the force of the engine's torque and apply it to the substantial subframe.

The solid roll dampers transmit the engine's rotational force to the much smaller, and not as structurally strong, roll damper brackets. These brackets are attached to the thin sheet steel of the strut towers by two small bolts.

These solid rods will be force the damper brackets and strut towers to withstand the torque of the engine before the motor mounts begin to bear the load. This is because the mounts have some initial movement that is designed to reduce the magnitude of the vibration before it is transmitted to the subframe.

The solid roll dampers also transmit every engine and transmission noise and vibration directly into the passenger compartment. You have been forewarned.

half-way there, I think.
I know of one person that has broken the left side torgue limiter bracket twice. Gary Morrel strongly recommends against them - same reason as Scott has already stated.

i use the solid torque limiters and have had no ill effects. I did not notice any increased harshness, or noise in the passenger compartment. If the strength of the strut tower is an issue, you could pull the studs out and use a large washer to distribute the force applied to the thin sheet metal of the strut tower. I mearly suggeste dhe use the solid limiters to prevent the destruction of the expensive motor mounts.

ALso i drag race, with drag radials and an aggrssive launch, i have yet to break a motor mount and i give credit to the limiters. Also, the "hulk" had them installed, we know that thing made good torque, and he never had issues of broken mounts or strut tower problems.

I can see where you are coming from, but the solid limiters do seem to do a good job. i can say this because i have never heard of broken strut towers or brackets.

What do you guys thing of a chain connected to a bracket shaped like this and running straight down to the subframe. It would be 1/4" x 2" flat stock steel and connected to the lower front surge tank support bolts. I have a chain on my V8 and it is very effective.

The trick with the solid limiters(i have a set that i`ve made myself)if that you must use the rubber bushings that were on the original strut type limiters.Without them,i got a severe buzzing at 4k rpm`s.I beleive that the slid limiters and EOM limiters do little in acutaly dampening, and may be more for the reduction of noise vibrations.
In the spring,i will be completely removing the limiters and brackets altogether. At 106k,i doubt OEM limiters have any dampening force left(mine didn`t),and they are rarely replaced under a maintenance item.

SHOZ123-The V6 SHO`s do not have the clearence on the passengers side to run anything from the plemun supports(on the head end)to the subframe. The drivers side doesn have a clear shot, but not by much.I have designed and built a device that is very loosely based on your throry, with different anchor points.

Was your car the one that had the mount problem where the bolt hole became oblong with all the excessive wear? Make sure the mount bracket is still in good enough shape so the mount won't wear/break prematurely. You might want to try one of JT's new mounts and see if it works any better.

Are any you guys using the reinforced engine mounts and are you having any problems with these?

Are these problems only related to the stock mounts?

I have to replace mine and I do not know if the extra expense of the reinforced mounts is worth it.

I'm using one of Sho Nut's. So far so good. Seems like some cars have a few more problems with movement than others. I would suggest the most durable mount you can find if you are planning on making a significant increase in stock hp/tq.

I made a torque strap out of a turn buckle, some chain and some flat iron. It attaches to one of the starter bolts and to the frame below the radiator. It seems to work good so far. FYI, I didn't use the engine dampners when I did my swap. One of these days I'm going to take the hood off and go for a drive so I can see just how much the engine moves under acceleration.
