Groo:
Most rims > 17" = rice. Simple equation.
A better rule is <45series tires.

I have test driven a SHO with 18's, and unless the roads you drive on are totally *** hole free, don't go larger than 17s.

Your going to try and keep the stock tire diameter, and metal weighs more than rubber.

When I got my 18's I noticed no difference in ride quatlity. Probably because my car isn't lowered.

seems like little sharp bumps such as hiway expansion joints would be more noticable. If you're driving on nice smoove roads, you could have any old tire/rim you like. Where is centralia, WA? I'll take a wild ass guess and say right in the center of the state. If my geography is any good, I believe that's kinda high desert type climate. Or would that be further east? Anyway, how are the roads there? Do you get much below freezing temps in the winter? The kind that turns roads to shit? Here in New England we have the absolute worst climate for roads and it shows. Many roads are just a continuous stretch of filled in potholes along with the occasional yet to be filled in pothole. I think you gotta be nuts or rich to drive here with anything less than about a 4 maybe 5 inch sidewall height. The whole idea of lower aspect ratios is to keep the tire from rolling over on it's side in a turn. I think you have to push the stock 16 inch 55 series pretty damn hard to make them do that. Maybe going to a 45 aspect ratio shows a bit of improvement, but, anything lower shows it's self as ride harshness more than anything. So, if performance is what yer after, maybe go to a 17 inch 45 or 50. If looks are your thing and you like a huge rim, knock yerself out and get the 20s. Just don't cry when you ding a rim or cut a sidewall. Now if you have something which is extrememly wide like a vette (345 I think in the rear), even a 35 is gonna be tall enough. What is the widest you can go on a SHO anyhow, without major fender mods? 245?

17'' work for me, some of our roads are awful and the RR crossings can be absolutely terrible. When I bought my rims, there was no concern of the "cost" of the rim. However, just because I had no concern for the cost, didn't mean that I wanted to buy > 17''. That is a preference of mine. Instead I went with forged rims.

Today, I actually saw a Escalade (sp) with..24'' rims on it. How funny! It belonged to one of the Houston Texans football players. So much chrome...

Your assumtion on Centralia, is partly correct. It is in the center, but it's on the west side of the cascades. The roads here are pretty nice, since it only freezes here about 5-10 times a year. It just rains A LOT. Anyway, I know what you are talking about, because I used to live in minnesota and WI.

Ok if all you care about is ride, why not 235/45/18 tires for te extra sidewall to equal out to the same as the 17" with 235/45/18?

Here you go. I think I need some lowering springs for the front because I don't like that much wheel gap. The rear, however, looks good IMO. I got them off ebay a while ago. Let's just say they were quite a good deal.

About 17lbs-19lbs each, pretty heavy 16's considering my 18x8 rims weigh in at 24lbs each.

There is always Centerline; 17's @ 13.5 lbs and a price that is waaaaaaaaaay below products like HRE and Fikse. Also, Team Dynamics has their new forged line out....finally.

I just recieved info from TD that they are available. Centerline's are still lighter in 18's @ 14.5 lbs.

half-way there, I think.
I have had 17's on mine for 2 years now. I have had to replace one tire, broken a sidewall cord. Have also had to have one rim repaired - bent the inside lip, no tire damage. As far as ride quality - personally it's a little harse. But I wouldn't give up the increased steering response. I know one thing is for sure, before the 17's went on, my suspesion was fine - in the last rear I've had to replace springs and struts. The lower the profile of tire, the quicker it will eat up your "stock" suspension. Just my opinion wink

Whats there website? Didnt know they made lighter 18x8's :D . What are your thoughts on lighter forged wheels, are they as strong? Or a softer metal compared to other mag or steel rims?

RI, you better stick with yer heavy duty 18s, until they finish with road construction in N.E. which will be, ohhhh about a year or two after **** freezes. ****, the sox might even win a series before that happens. Naaahhhh, never mind, the roads will be fixed first.
