I've got a set of Koni inserts I'm installing in our '93 SHO. I'm wondering if any of you have re-used the large aluminum "spacer" on the rear strut mount??

The Koni instructions show NOT to use an impact on the top nut, but there is no way to double wrench the big nut and the strut shaft with this in place. Basically I need to know how to tighten the big nut and NOT screw up the adjuster tab. Thanks as always, Rudy.

they make a strut installation tool where there's a socket that allows an extension and another socket to be placed through it, then there is a hex head on the end. You can then hold the top of the strut with the pass thorugh socket and turn the nut with the outer socket with appropriate wrench attached.

The Aluminum "spacer" is a tuned mass damper, you can leave it off.

IIRC, as it's been quite awhile since I installed any Koni inserts, I think the rod nut is 22mm 'cross the flats, and don't the Koni rods still have a 10mm hex at the top, just below the adjustment tang?

Ditch the Aluminum spacer, then there's room inside the strut mounting cup for a crow's foot wrench on the rod nut. Keep the rod from turning with a 10mm deep socket and breaker bar or ratchet.

Edit: If leaving off the tuned mass damper, do make sure to put cup washers on both sides of the rubber bushing in the strut mounting cup.
