Keyless entry pad question(GEN 1).

I've searched but couldn't find the answer.

I thought water got in where the keyless entry pad is. I pulled door panel trim out and then tried to get to the back of keyless entry pad but couldn't get there. I hooked battery back up to roll down the window glass and then the keyless entry light came up! but then it went off about 3 seconds later. I unhooked battery and hooked it back again to see if it's doing it. Yeah, it lights up for about 3 seconds everytime I hook the battery up. I'm wondering actually the keyless entry is working but like ground wire or something is loose. What do you guys think?

If I still have to get the pad out, do I need to remove window glass? I basically removed just door panel trim.

Anyone?? I need to drive it tomorrow. If I have to, I'll drive it without push pins on(I don't want to waste new push pins). Haha

Maybe I missed it, but what was the problem to begin with?

The keypad should illuminate for 3 seconds once the door latch is pulled, or the keys are pressed.

It doesn't illuminate or work by pulling door latch or pressing keys but what I was saying is that it illuminates for like 3 seconds whenever I unhook the battery and hook it back but then it doesn't work again. That's the only time it illuminates. I'm wondering if it's keyless entry pad problem or not. Also, I need to know how to fix it.

P.S: If I have to replace it, how do I do that? I pulled door panel trim out but it seems like window glass is on the way to the clip that holds the pad up

Have you checked the connector for the pad that's in the door?

I couldn't get there because the window glass is in the way. I used flashlight to see it and it didn't look at good. That could be it?

Have you tried accessing the pad with the window rolled up? You can remove the inner door panel without having the window rolled all the way down. This might make it easier to get at.

Yes you need to remove the plastic cover. Looks like a plastic sheet of trash bag. You can carefully and slowly peel it down and out of the way. You do not need to replace it. The driver's window should also be up. There is a spring clip that holds the key pad in. You will have to remove this, then unplug the connection. There isn't a lot of room in the door, but I have faith in you. My guess is that you have a broken wire on the back of the key pad itself. That's what happened to me. It's a wind seal. It can be replaced with heavy duty garbage bag(3mil plastic) and 2 sided sticky tape. Or a plastic drop cloth...

When I pulled mine to replace the window, I just made sure not to rip it and then I resealed it with some gorilla snot. has been perfect ever since.

They look ok except in the bottom picture, as you can see one black wire is not wired but I couldn't find the other end. There are 9 wires coming out of the pad, but there's only 8 wire slots on the connector. What kind of wire is that? Grounding wire? Then where does the end go? Help me please

Ok. Thanks a lot. Weird thing is that it illuminates for 3 seconds whenever I hook the battery back on. Seems like fuse or the pad itself. By the way, the black wire seems like empty. I looked into it and there's no metal wires.

it may be your RKE box in the back. It controls the delayed illuminated entry system on the SHO.

The keypad on my old SHO acted up after I replaced the doors. I think there was something loopy in the large canister connector between the door and door jamb. Unfortunately, to clean that you need to remove the door...

That's what I'm hoping it's not! That driver's door plug is a bitch sometimes.

I looked at a spare key pad and it looks the same as yours. The black wire at the bottom goes nowhere.

That key pad looks ok to me. Time to check the box and driver's door plug. I'd check the box first.
