This 2011 SHO is the first Ford I've had with the disappearing remote access keypad, but I've had several Fords with the membrane keypad. I like the ability to press the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons to lock the doors when I exit, especially since I can swipe my fingers to unlock the door. I leave the fob in my pocket and basically never have to remove it.

What I'm finding though is that pressing the 7-8 and 9-0 does not work consistently on my car. I've read the manual and watched the Ford video, but it doesn't seem to reliably work holding both buttons for 2 seconds. It seems that if I press both buttons while a passenger is still exiting the doors lock immediately upon pressing the buttons. However if I'm the only one in the car and I close my door, then immediately attempt to lock the doors it rarely works to lock the doors, regardless of how long I hold the buttons. Sometimes it seems to work if I wait several seconds then press and hold the buttons. But even that is inconsistent.

Is anyone else having similar issues, or is there a sequence that seems to reliably work for others? I'm still compiling my list of issues to have the dealer investigate before I take the car in. First on the list is the multi contour seats not resting in the correct setting. I enjoy driving the car too much to take it in and leave it with the dealer each time I come across what seems like an issue.

I too keep my key in the pocket and only use the keypad for lock/unlock. I have had no issues as long as I cover both bottom buttons for more than 1 or 2 seconds.......It has been very reliable with no issues....

Didn't even know about that locking feature. I just use the lock button on the inside door panel as I'm getting out.

Thanks for the comments. I guess I'll add this to my list of questions for the dealer service. Since it works sometimes though and each time the keypad lights (recognizing my fingers) I suspect it's something I'll just need to learn to live with, which will probably involve pressing the lock button as I'm stepping out of the car. At least the unlock swipe works reliably.

I know what you mean, pressing the 7-8 and 9-0 keys on the keypad to lock the doors is pretty unreliable with my 2011 as well.....

What I would really like to figure out is how to unlock ALL the doors with a single swipe of the keypad rather than just the drivers door. I know that you can press the 3-4 key to do this after the swipe, however this is as unreliable as the lock feature.

I've checked the manual and still can't figure it out. Anyone? :thankyou:

Two stage unlocking may be disabled or re-enabled by simultaneously pressing the lock and unlock controls on the transmitter for four seconds
(disabling two stage unlock allows all vehicle doors to unlock simultaneously). The parking lamps will illuminate twice to indicate that two-stage unlock was enabled or disabled.
If equipped with IA key, when two stage unlocking is disabled, intelligent access at the driver’s door results in an unlock of all doors (not just the driver door).

:thankyou: I will try this out later! I've found it annoying that after the swipe I still needed to press another button to open all the doors for my passengers.

To tell the truth, the girlfriend found it annoying to wait for the keypad while I tried to make the 3-4 button unlock her door! (read previous comments about it working intermittently) gotta keep the gf happy

If you punch in the 5 digit code...the 3/4 button will work reliably....If you punch the 5/6 button after the 5 digit code the trunk will pop..... The key to the lock feature is to hold the last two for at least two seconds. If you release them too soon...it will not lock....Until I got the knack I thought there was an issue as well.

I had a bit of issues with the lock feature in the beginning but I noticed if I waited until all doors were closed and then made sure I hit those to buttons dead on it works fine, if your off a bit when you touch them it's not as friendly.

As for the 2 stage unlock mine doesn't work to open the passenger doors just the driver door, gonna have to go try that bit with the fob and see what happens

Hitting my pillar buttons locks all my doors so I guess you do need to be precise on what you are hitting as it may not be getting a good contact. And the manual tells how you can make all the doors unlock just by touching the keypad area. It's not that hard to do, its just finding it in the book. And I know I told some folks before, but has everyone found the hidden trunk release near the license plate area?? If you press this button while the key fob is in your pocket it'll open without having to go to the dash button or the button on the fob itself.

Mine is very inconsistent also. Sometimes no matter how long you hold the two buttons nothing happens. Quite frustrating!

See I don't need to read the book, thanks

I found that you have to hold it for about two seconds....but it has to be near in time to the door being closed in some circumstances...if it gives you trouble, try opening and re-closing the door then try it....

I thought it was me doing something wrong, but my keypad is pretty inconsistent as well, but I have to admit I haven't waited 2 seconds for the lock feature with the 7-8, 9-0 buttons most times. I also didn't know about disabling the 2 stage unlock feature, but still undecided if I want all doors unlocked with one swipe. Thanks for the info everyone.

The lock feature has been much more consistent for me now that I first lay my thumb on the '7-8' and then roll it down to the '9-0' button. Seems to lock everytime for me and quickly that way. But it's also just about as convenient to press the lock button at the inside door handle as I open the door.

Really, your hand is right there to open the door! It's just a matter of extending your fingers to reach the lock button on the inside.

Just went out and tried this method and it worked the first time, this seems to be the way to do it. Thanks!:thankyou:
