I have a question, I just had my 93 SHO ATX transmission rebuilt and it is shifting quite weird. It was downshifting hard when I picked it up, and then it went away and leveled out. Then about an hour later I took a spin and it was doing the same thing, and this time I could put the pedal to the floor and it would not move anywhere, a tempo could have smoked me.....

I called the service shop and was told that the computer has to "re-learn" the shifting patterns for the vehicle and it should work itself out in a few days. This evening I went for a nice long ride adn its a good 80% better... but it still acts up here and there. I was speaking to a mechanic friend of mine who said that the people at the shop should have done something about this before it left their hands, obviously, but he also stated there is a way to make the computer do this, something about starting the car, driving for a bit, stopping and shuttign it off, and doing it again or somesort, but he said he was not sure how FORDS are done... It could very well be crap or misinformation, but any help getting my newly built SHO tranny on the right track again would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! thumb

Also...

After I get the kinks worked out and it begins performing correctly I plan on adding a transmission cooler and a LPM.

I had the transgo kit installed with the stock springs and a steel forward piston when I had the transmission redone. Any information about this future modification would be greatly appreciated, Im an older motorhead myself, these computerized vehicles make my head spin however :)

How are the LPMS programmed? Can they be adjusted easily? Would a 80MAF be a safe investment after the LPM and how would I upgrade the LPM with my future modifications?

I know these questions mayh aveb een answered a million times over but any help would be greatly appreciated, I've had the engine completley redone within the past year, and I've finally got the transmission done. I'm anxious to keep adding to my genII. It's a 93 3.2v ATX. I was alo thinking about picking up a computer from a 95.

Like I said, im not exactly hip on the newer vehicles so please try to keep explanations simplified. :D

Thank You, Take care! thumb

You can try the idle speed reset procedure here, and just disconnect your battery for a few minutes with the headlight switch on to clear the PCM first, but I suspect your problem is due to a faulty rebuild and not a PCM adaptive strategy problem. frown

Once you get an LPM and ever do further modifications all you have to do is send it back to where ever you bought it from (Ted B. is the guy to do business with) and let him know what modifications you did and he will reprogram for your new mods. After the LPM I would definintely recommend an 80mm MAF.

We just got done putting a rebuilt ATX in my 93 SHO. It shifted like new right out of the box. There was no computer-learning that had to take place. Take a look and make sure your VSS is connected.

We discovered the VSS dis-connected on the rebuilt tranny that had been put in the car just before we put in the new Ford rebuilt tranny. You should also check all the other tranny electrical connections. There's about five total.

VSS,TSS, two harness connectors, and a plug-in connector into the top of the tranny by where the shifter cable hooks to the tranny.

Having had the ATX blue myself I would also say run the codes and look for the code for Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS).
Actualy that would have been a cheap 20 bucks to change whike the tranny was out.

It is a major PITA to change on the car.

It was shifting like a dream today, and then on my way home from lunch it started doing it again, it would shift quickly up through the gears, almost too quickly, and just never take off... and on the way down it would knock down through them rather rough when slowing down. I guess I'll just have to bring it back, I got a 6month warranty on the rebuild so I'll make good use of it....

back to the shop.. headbang

Sorry for the TSS acronym, but it's the Turbine Speed Sensor. The TSS is on the opposite end of the tranny from the VSS. If you take off the driver side wheel, you'll see it kind of towards the center of the tranny horizontally and towards the middle of the tranny vertically. It has a wiring connection similar to the VSS.

Kens Village Transmission on Broadway. A friend of mine owns Pinta's service downtown on eagle and his son got me a deal over at kens on the rebuild. Unfortunately I'll have to take it back since it seems a sensor was not connected or came loose. They guaranteed the tranny rebuild from any faults for 6 months so I can't complain, and the price was great conpared to the quotes I was getting locally.
