Hello

91 sho
3.0
x2j computer
c&l mass air flow sensor
catless y pipe

I've got a 91 sho that has been super reliable for forever, however the other day while driving home i was around 3500rpm and all of a sudden the rpms drop to roughly 500rpm, engine is unresponsive to gas pedal, and from what i remember i thought i heard a slapping noise and i think the engine kinda was backfiring or sputtering.

So i call a tow truck and i was certain my timing belt went, so i get it home and order a new belt and front main seal. Several weeks go by my parts show up i tear the front side of the engine apart only to find the timing belt entirely there on the pulleys, unbroken.

So as the cars apart i throw the battery in and check the codes, the only ones it gave me are 111.

Of course it is recommended to change the crank position sensor when putting a new belt on.

So my question is do you guys think its the crank postion sensor.

thanks

Disregard the 111. Since you had the battery out you erased what codes were there. That should have been step #1.

The symptoms you describe sound just like when the CPS went out in my 93. I thought it was the fuel pump going out but it was the crank sensor. Since you have it already apart it would be advisable to swap it out and go ahead and do the water pump if it hasnt been done in a while. Throw the new belt on too. Better to replace it now then wait for it to snap.

Oh that makes sense so the car will only store codes with battery power, once its gone then it's erased.

Alrighty i will order some more stuff.

thanks

why don't you put it back together and drive it for a while till it acts up again, then read the codes and figure out what is really wrong with it? then you can fix it once.

the way you are going about it, you will empty your wallet and replace everything until you stumble across the thing that is actually wrong.

K I got the car back together. So I'll drive it around for a while and see if it acts up.

I did put a new cps in it though because it came in at the parts store.

The car is running. But it did take a bit to get it going. Just stepped on the gas while cranking.
