Was driving on the freeway and heard a loud clunk like something fell out of the car. Pulled off an off ramp and at the stoplight car simply turned off. Thought it might be my trans as I was expecting that to go soon, but there was smoke coming from the front of the engine bay from a canister it looks like under the front of the engine any help is appreciated :(

Believe it’s gear oil... all over the downpipes all the way back to the rear of the car under it is coated in oil. Still waiting on the tow truck! 3am here in Cali now

Ugh. If it is a PP Gen 5 car, it could be an oil cooler line, but yeah, the block could be toast. I would consider it unreliable at best at this point.

Update: threw a rod threw the side of the block. going to dismantle the engine later today and see if the turbos are shot too. We are down for the count for a while it looks like. going to try and get my hands on a used or rebuilt motor, if anyone knows anywhere either online or have any contacts that can get me a good motor feel free to let me know. Sad day for this SHO :(

It had 92k miles on it, tuned by AJP Turbo. SW Catted DP, Test pipes, k&n intake, gapped plugs and it just went as i was driving on the freeway...
Don't want to point fingers at Brad, was just curious. AT 92k miles and only owning it for a few months there could be a lot we don't know. Good luck finding a cheap motor to swap in. Check out www.car-part.com

I was getting some erratic idling on occasion but not too much so i didnt think it was an issue. Also had throttle surge at lower RPMS. I just thought it was my tranny acting up as i thought that was what was going to go on my car, but not the engine

You recently purchased the car as well correct? Was prior ownership's maintenance procedures known before purchase? Also what oil where you using?

Not necessarily the owner's fault. Tho the design of the engine is somewhat susceptible to destruction when the engine has not yet reached normal operating temperature and heavy throttle demand is placed upon it. I think most likely it is the low tension piston rings going bellyup. Sounds like there may have been loss of compression with that rough idle, MAYBE. Or could have been LSPI, or superknock.
