Have 93 with stock JBL. The CD player decides to stop working. I get no antenna retraction. Stereo works but is no good with the only reception coming from my fender. Last night the CD deck was totally unfunctional. This morning it started to work for about a minute but then just turned off. The speakers are making popping noises when I trigger the radio on an off. When the CD player did work and the sound was balanced the left side was weaker than the right. Sounds like a bad connection but I thought I'd float the info before I get myself into trouble. Thanks for any help. :)

When you say that the CD stoped working, does it spin disks at all or does the unit not come on at all?

Sounds to me like some messed up wiring behind the head unit. The noises coming from your speakers are there because the indepenent ampifier is getting ungrounded/erratic signals from the head unit (like a loose connection - causing buzzing sounds, etc.), and because the factory amps are powered on a separate circuit (making them "on" even if the deck is off. That said, the amps being on, still powers the speakers, but if the input signal that comes from the deck is messed up, that will cause your symptoms. A loose connector or hacked up wiring sounds like the culprit. The cd player's power wiring harness plugs into the deck's same harness. Pull the deck out and check things out back there. You'll need the radio keys to pull each unit out.

just need to resolder the preamp outputs on the CD. I had the same problem as you, and now it works perfect.
