I ahve an 91 with the 8 speaker 2 amp system. Now sometimes the volume will go either all the way up or all the way down and you cant adjust it. When this happens you cant change the channel on the radio but you can change the CD track. Any ideas?

Yeah, it sounds like your factory wiring is fine, amps are good, etc. If you want to keep a CD/Cassete option on your car, go on Rickie's website and ask him for the pricing on a JVC FX250 and a 12disc changer. That's what I have in mine now and it bumps! I mounted the changer underneath the package tray in-between the two woofers. The setup is not expensive at all and you'll end up having more CD's in the magazine than you will know what to do with.

If your volume goes all the way up it has to do with the face of the radio. The buttons behind the face get old and "stick" to the circuit board. The only way to solve that problem is have the face rebuilt. I used to work for a audio shop that specialized in repairing factory radios. Check your phone book and call around for shops that offer that service. If i remember it would cost the customer about $100 to have the face rebuilt. Or you can do what Erik (thx for the props dude) said and replace the radio with aftermarket.

ditch the deck. my 1990 SHO did that. i was going to fix it when i got hit by an SUV and had to total the car out.

my 92 SHO has all options except for the cd player. no worries, i replaced the deck with an Alpine in dash CD player from my friend.

you will not believe the difference! i know from collecting vintage tube audio gear (McIntosh, Marantz, etc.) that the further upstream you go (meaning from the speakers back to the cd itself) the larger an impact you are going to have. like, if you have a crappy head unit, the amplifiers and speakers just amplify the crappiness! of course, speakers make the biggest difference, but actually the stock JBLs are really nice. they look exactly like the ones you blow $200/pr for.

lastly, my friends are into car audio (i'd rather spend my money somewhere else). one of them was convinced i had a pair of boston acoustic pro series in the front doors.

as a side note, you can splice into those wierd connectors for the sub amp if you want to throw a box back there. i had a 10" in there that shook the shi!t out of the car. more power the better, but as long as you not planning on winning any sound offs, it will boom quite enough.

see ya,
Robby
