After I replaced my thermostat my car didn't want to start at all. All I had done was replace the T-Stat, refill the radiator and squeeze the top radiator hose a few times to get the air out of the system. Turned over for over a minute and would not start :frown: . Didn't sputter, didn't sound like it was catching at all. Then I used an old trick:

While cranking,
Floor gas (1 sec or so), release, floor gas, release, hold gas down.

5 seconds later it sputtered to life. I have no idea why it didn't want to start in the first place (I know my head gaskets are fine - any ideas people?) This trick was made for flooded carbed motors, but it has worked for me quite a few times on FI cars. Who knows, might work for you :thumb: ......

Your timing is off. Before you spend anymore money, go back in there and verify that the timing is correct. I had this happen, I put it all together, wouldn't start, had air, fuel and spark, would just backfire. Went back in there and found out that somehow I did get the belt unaligned. Got it perfect, double, triple, quadruple checked it. Then went to fire up. Wouldn't start. In my haste I realized I didn't reinstall the two bolts on the intake crossover tube. They're ground points, put them back in, viola, started like a dream...my 3.2 swap was finished...well almost. Some here knows what happened next :nut:

I guess I will go back and check timing and spark this weekend. By any chance is there anyone that lives in the Columbus area that is pretty versed in these engines that may be willing to assist? I think I have posed this question before and got no response but I figure it can not hurt to ask, plus I just want to get this car running.

I am going to check timing, spark and compression over the next couple of days. I was wondering if anyone knew what the compression should be, should it be the same on all?

I agree that it sounds like a timing issue for the most part.

But as noted, I would also check to be sure that the upper intake itself is mounted properly, and that the ground strap is firmly attached, and anything else which could also affect ground. Also, check that the connectors on the DIS module are secure, and make sure the wire harnesses didn't get pinched off when re-assembling things.

If you do a search, rangerj has posted some DIS tests which might be worthwhile to try.

After the year from the dead with my 94 ATX freakshow I might be able to help. Do a search under CRANK CANCER and do some reading. I "know" I put my frontend on right three different times when I did my 60k I must have checked the timing belt 6x. After 10 straight hours searching the forum I found it with pictures!! I couldn't see it until I took the lower sprocket off but I had a 1/2 in of play and the woodruff key had about 3/64 left between it and ?? Easy fix if you catch it early but you can do some serious damage to the crank if it's not fixed. Next I'd check the grounds again, I thought mine were clean but it wasn't until I filed and wire brushed the connecting surfaces, drilled a different hole and used a new screw and cleaned behind the DIS would the car start.Good luck!!
