Luk, as a supplier, has good products. I use their clutch kits all the time.

However, I can not say good or bad on the cable. I would not be scared to use it.

Mike

Edit: What are your shifting problems.

I'm suspecting that I need to replace the clutch cable in a recently purchased 1995 MTX: My symptoms are that it shifts fine in all forward gears, and also in reverse so long as you are flat or sloping down, but it does not like shifting in to reverse up hill. Also does anyone have experience with the other clutch cables at Auto Zone. Suppose you're willing to spring for the Beck Arnley or even the pioneer, how would you fare? Thanks for letting me butt in (no pun intended).

Thank God you asked. I really need a direction to go with this thing LOL

I turned the idle down some and it helped, but didn't fix it.

My problem is let's say a "delayed shift" from 1-2 and 2-3. 4th and 5th it is barely noticeable, but 2 and 3 are bad.
It's a full 1 second delay before it will take the gear.

The RPMs have to fall down before it will slip into gear.
Shifts buttery smooth with the engine turned off.

Thanks for any help. :hail: :hail: :hail:

Thanks tysho. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait a week or two to get it, so I'll probably order the cheaper one online.

(anyone got that link again for the 7.95 one?)

Just bought a radiator, battery, and set of rod bearings for the thing. It's gettin expensive LOL

You know by lifting the clutch pedal up with your foot [takes very little pressure], it adjusts the clutch cable automatically? You might want to try that first.

If you have problems, make a thread about them and list what your problem is and the things you are experiencing...there's always going to be some help. You can also use the search function on this forum. You don't have to wait for someone to ask what the problem is in order to get help. :thumb:

I know LOL. I actually did make a thread and got some good suggestions.

I need to start by changing the trans fluid and see what happens then.

If that doesn't fix it I can adjust / replace the clutch cable.

Cut the carpet out.

or.... replace the clutch/pp/tob?

Only problem is if my MTX needs a rebuild it would suck to put in a new clutch and have the same shifting issues.
I think it IS the clutch though because it shifts fine when the engine isn't running. I think it's just the clutch not disengaging, but why?

Spent hours searching and reading already on here too. :thumb:

Thanks for the help

I would think you have a clutch/pressure plate/throw out bearing problem. If the cable is routed through its holder, I would not expect it to stretch that much. The quadrant should take up any slack.

Being that the RPMs have to drop, I would guess pressure plate straps getting weak.
