As a non mechanic but a reader of forums on the internet it seems that my 1998 SHO could be in trouble. The speedo pegs at zero causing the transmission to go crazy. Some helpful members told me the culprit is the ABS module. They have discontinued this part. Can some one recommend a place to have it rebuilt? Does anyone have a used one? Also- what if I drive the automatic like a stick. Does the transmission need the input from the speedometer if I manually start in 1st then to 2nd then to 3rd and never put the transmission into D. Is this an option until I find a replacement ABS?
I have spent alot of time and money on this car on major items and it seems hard for me to understand that something like the ABS could cause me not to drive her.

The ABS controller gives the PCM the speed signal. That's why the speedo dies and the tranny goes crazy.

Midnight Auto is having a "Going Out of Business" sale right now; he might have a used ABS pump/controller for you. His screen name on here is midnightauto.

Rebuilt ABS

I am on my third ABS from junkyards. Now trying to get it rebuilt.

Here is their response:

Hello,

The Experimental Program is what we can do to help you with this type of part. This is what we offer when someone calls with a part that we do not already repair and are not sure if we can fix yet. We offer to take the part in and try to repair the problem for little or no charge at all. This is because the part would be here for up to two weeks and more importantly, we cannot guarantee it will be fixed. We will try to research the part and develop a repair in this time. After that, we will call you and go over the results.

We only ask that you let us know after you get it back that was worked on experimentally, if it works or not, please give us a call and let us know so we can make any necessary notes on the attempted rebuild. After we get a good amount of the same experimental parts in and send them back successfully repaired, then we can start charging for that item.

The charges for experimental parts are usually ZERO, but there are a few items that we do charge for if they are rebuilt and tested successfully. For airbag control modules that are repaired, the cost is $100. For dash panels that are repaired, there would be a $150 charge. All other experimental parts at this time are free of charge.

If you would like to give this a try, please complete the form located at http://www.bba-reman.com/images/repair-request.pdf and enclose it in the box with the part.

Thank you,
-Jen

Any luck on the one you sent to BBA? Are you doing the labor and installation yourself? I mentioned I am not a mechanic and will have to have the local garage pull the old one and then put in a new one. I don't want to have to do this multiple times. Did the ones from the junkyard fail right away? Will this BBA test work?
