IMHO,You'll have a difficult time CerberuS getting the front part of the dash where the defroster vents are and where it meets the windshield painted. Your going through all that work with the engine and the rest of the car, you may as well change the dash out too.:thumb:

Yea, I know what you mean. I've got 2 grey's and one beige. You know, you might consider removing the dash and then paint it.

I've bought beige interior paint from the Ford dealer. Maybe black is available, its worth checking out. The paint is a lacquer and has really good adhesion quality. I painted the bolsters of the driver seat in my ATX and they turned out great! You can't even tell they were all crappy looking. I'll get some pics on Sunday and post them for you to see. Cheers.

Cerberus - Another possibility is to remove the windshield and paint the top of the dash that way. I'm considering a black interior to replace the gray I have now. The dash would be a problem for me also, but since my windshield is so beat up and needs to be replaced anyway, I could do a better job of masking and painting with the windshield out. Got glass coverage on your insurance policy?

Umm yea , or maybe a thin cardboard inserted between dash/windshield and spray...

I would like to see some pics of a black painted compared to black real thing..Before putting all the efforts into taping everything.

If you can wait till monday, I can show you pics of a gen II center console that I painted black for my gen I. I used SEM prep spray and then Landau black, it gives a nice oem finish that is fairly scratch resistant. I have used SEM many times in my line of work and never had any complaints!

You also might try and find somone to dye it. Here we have a guy that does minor interior repairs (small niks/tears in leather/dashes etc) and he is set up to dye plastic/leather whatever color you want. Sem is not a dye, it is a 'flexable coating' with dye, you are permantly changing the color. Don't know how easy it would be to find a guy like him up there though...

Jelloslug painted the upper part of my console with SEM and it perfectly matches the factory black lower half. you cannot tell the difference. I also cannot find a black dash in good condition for the life of me so i've considered painting the dash too. I would use SEM, i tried duplicolor vinyl paint and it dosent match. it is too glossy. I have a pic somewhere, if i find it i'll post it.

I used VHT Vinyl Dye on my dash and several other interior pieces. Looks great and holds up great. Just be sure to prep and clean the parts good. I also used an adhesion promotor.

Yup, VHT matches much better then the Duplicolor. I still plan on converting my interior to black by dying most of the pieces.
