intake cleaning

im taking off and cleaning my upper intake manifold, any valves or vacuum tubes to watch out for? and if so where are they at so i can avoid them?

Just remember which hoses you unplug when remove the intake so you can put everything back. There are several coolant and vacuum hoses that you do have to remove and a few that you do not. It is not too hard. Just take it slow and do not use too much cleaner. Berryman’s B-12 is your best bet.

Depending on where you live, you might consider bypassing the coolant flow thru the throttle body at this time, and save yourself some trouble down the road, because you WILL have it off again, and maybe sooner than later.

Also, remove and clean the IAB valve while you have the intake off - this will also save you much trouble down the road. Check SHOtimes.com FAQ's for a nice rundown of both these procedures.

Torque spec for manifold bolts is very low 11-17 ft-lb IIRC (better check it). Do not twist them off. That would suck.

Step 1: Remove Intake.
Step 2: Clean Intake.
Step 3: Install Intake.

See, easy as 1-2-3!

J/K...Seriously though, Its not that hard. Just take your time with takeing it off and make sure you know where everything goes. Also, if you take the intake completly apart, when reinstalling it, leave all of the hose clamps loose to help with getting it aligned with the pins on the head. It is a real PITA when you have a vaccuum leak from it not seating right. Also, one more tip, make sure the ground strap is securly fasened back in place, or it will not start.
