I have a 95 atx, had a post about a month ago that when hot and let sit then when i try to start it it would backfire through the intake. It was suggested for me to replace my CID (camshaft sensor). So I replaced it two days ago, no difference. It will pop through the intake crank for a while longer and then start right up and have a burning smell through the vents for about 5 sec, (not oil, or coolant like) and run fine, doesn't have a driveability prob at all plenty of power! Doesn't do it if it is turned of and restarted within 30 min. Never does it when cold, only when hot and let sit for 1-3 hrs. Cam, and crank sensors only 5 thousand miles old, new cam only 3 hundred miles old. DIS also only 5 thousand old also. My mechanic said my other problem is related to this one....It will also sometimes when cranking crank like it has no juice (wa wa) and the dash lights will dim with the sound, but try it again and it will start right up. He said ignition was advanced to much and causes it to do that, he said both problems have the same source. Please help!

I had a very similar problem with my 91. The first thing I did was check the timing. Timing was straight, so I proceded to pulling the intake manifold off, only to find cylinder three flooded with gas(leaking injector) so you might look at those as possibilities.

A leaking injector is what I was thinking as well. It's pretty easy to test if you have a fuel pressure guage.

That sounds logical but I have a question. If I have a leaky injector wouldn't it be a problem I deal with everytime I start the car? Never does it when cold, somedays it will be perfect all day, and other days it will be evil and do it like 6 times. It does it more, when it has been driven a lot, either a trip, or just a lot around town. Maybe it is an injector I am just tryin to narrow this down thanx for ur help, hope we can figure this out, more responses would be welcomed-thanx

I have this problem currently with my SHO but it will just crank and almost turn on(RPM jump to 100-200) then shuts off with loud popping/backfiring. Hopefully it turns out to be the timing because I just dislike removing the manifold.
