I just finished installing 2 express down modules in my 91 for the driver's and passenger's windows... I understand the wiring on it, but would like some help before I tackle the moonroof. Does anyone have pictures of where there spliced all the wires into and where they grounded the module up there? Suggestions and insight would be excellent and much appreciated. I love having the module on the windows and think it'll be awesome to have the same on the moonroof. Thanks in advance. :thumb:

I don't have any pictures, but I spliced mine into the wires going from the switch. I grounded it to one of the screws holding the motor up, and I tapped into the 12 volt lead for the lights, I believe for the constant 12v power.

Which module did you get? The Auto-Loc WC1000? I have one, which is the second one... and I'm gonna have to get another. What's happened to me twice now, is that the outputs from it stop working correctly. It's getting the proper voltages at the proper times going into it, but when I push the switch either up or down, both the outputs from the module are positive, instead of positive and ground, which makes it not friggin move. I wish I knew what it was in the module that did that so I could fix it, I doubt they'd replace another one...

OK, attempted to wire the moonroof panel and once hooked up the switch won't work at all. After reading your post, it looks as though you used a completely different switch than OEM so I'm not sure if you're saying that it's necessary to change them out before installing the express down unit??? I used the module out of an SHO (92-95) for the driver's door window. Please give me some insight as to why I can't get it to work. Thanks!

Power Moonroof Operation Description

I bet the hiccups are occuring because of the way the moonroof operates. For the moonroof, it's not only a matter of applying power and ground to either side of the motor (like with the window motors).

This is out of my '93-'94 Ford Factory Manual:
Power Moonroof - How The Circuit Works

With the Ignition Switch in ACCY or RUN, voltage is applied to the Moonroof Switch. When the Moonroof Switch is in the OPEN position, voltage is applied to the motor and the Moonroof Relay, causing the Relay to energize. With the Relay energized, the motor will run since the Moonroof Relay contacts close to provide a ground path for the motor through the Moonroof Switch close/tilt up contacts.

Moonroof Relay
The Moonroof Relay's operation is slightly different from most relays in that one set of contacts will change position each time the Relay is energized, but will not change position when the relay is deenergized. The other set of contacts in the Relay operate in the same manner as a normal Relay. The contacts will close when the relay is energized and open once the Relay has deenergized.

Closing/Forward
When the Moonroof Switch is in the CLOSE/TILT UP position, voltage is applied to the motor through the latching contacts in the Moonroof Relay. The motor is grounded through the Moonroof Switch open/tilt down contacts, allowing the motor to run. Voltage is also applied to the Moonroof Relay coil when the Moonroof Switch is in the CLOSE/TILT UP position, but the Relay is not energized until the limit switch contacts move to the ROOF CLOSED position. When the Relay energizes, the latch contacts will open, cutting off power to the motor. This prevents the Moonroof from going into the TILT UP position.

Vent
When the TILT UP position is desired, voltage is applied to the Moonroof Relay coil from the close/tilt up contacts of the Moonroof Switch. The relay will energize since the coil is grounded through the roof closed contact of the limit switch and the open/tilt down contacts of the Moonroof Switch. With the Moonroof Relay energized, the latch contacts close to apply voltage to the motor.

Vent Close
To close the Moonroof from the TILT/UP position, voltage is applied to the motor from the open/tilt down contacts of the Moonroof Switch. The Moonroof Relay will not be energized until the limit switch is in the ROOF CLOSED position. When the Moonroof Relay energizes, the latch contacts will open the motor's ground circuit. This will prevent the Moonroof from opening if the Moonroof Switch is not released.

I was going to recomend the AutoLoc module as well. I have my drivers and passengers front doors wired with ford modules, but I'm going to change them out for autoloc modules on all four doors, and one for my moonroof hopefully. Though for the moonroof I might use the gen3 one touch module that is one touch ope or close I can't remember. I know that it shares the same plugs as the gen2 motor :)

Thanks for the schooling, I suppose, but what I'm saying is that the module I have, the WC 1000, is buggered for the second time. I know how the voltages were going into and out of it when it was working, and it's not working the same way again. Last time this happened it was out of the box, and they just gave me a new one. Now it's more than a year later, I believe, so I think I'm SOL.
