Ok I welded my cams last night and cleaned up my IMRC's and everything. Today i decided i would just delete the Plates and the rod's. I took everything apart, i got some JB Quick and proceeded to fill in the holes. That did not work. I got all the holes filled in but ended up getting it all in the runners. So I just spent about an Hour getting all that crap back out and polished the inside of the runners. Question is. Would it be ok to just install the rods but leave the plates off? I was thinking they may leak or worse the rods would end up coming out. So if I cant leave the rods in and the plates off then can someone explain how they did it with JB weld? Also on the bottom side of the IMRC plate there are 2 flat head screws that have a spring and ball inside there. What is this for. All I could tell it was for was to keep the inner rods from being able to be taken out. Well i think i may have misplaced the 2 springs somehow. I still have the balls and the screws. What do i do? Car has to go back together tomorrow!

i used JB quick. DId not give myself enough time to work the JB weld in. I was actually doing it with my finger. Putting it on my finger and jamming it into the holes. Did not know any other way to do it. So i ended up with more JB weld on the intake runners than anything. Has to be an easier way but im not sure. I need some sort of a syringe i suppose. Any suggestions?

JB quick dried too fast for me to be able to get it out of all the ports. Anyway I think I am just going to put the butterflies back in for now. I have to get the car back together tomorrow. Maybe when I have more time and maybe another car I can take it back apart and do it right.

Ok. I really need advise on this. I have no choice now but to delete the rods as i just snapped a rod clean in half, Dont ask me how but one of the rods is now broken.

I have read a few post about people doing this to cobra motors and they seem to be taking the LIM and setting it up vertical and taping the underside of the holes.

as long as there ain't unmetered air coming in (read: openings in the LIM), you'll be just fine. cover the outside holes, make sure your gasket seals up tight, and enjoy the extra intake noise.

Its hard to explain but ill do the best i can. I am not too worried about the end holes and the holes between cylinders. No biggie there. But right around the middle of the LIM where the rods go through, there is a square opening(right where the clip is that connects the 2 rods) That port goes all the way through to the bottom of the LIM. Seems the Mustang guys are filling that whole port in.

Not, not really. But if you are going to fill the holes up, you might as well do them all and wait as long as possible (up to a day) before running your car, and if you really have to ... don't rev the engine very high.

Yeah that looks fine to me. It looks like it has about the same specs as the red/black silicone RTV I used.

Just remember.. it may seal instantly, but you need to really let it sit for that 24-hour cure time or else the vacuum will just suck them right out of there.

Also, make sure you seal up the hole on the bottom too, if you don't it will create a vacuum leak.

Here is a pic of them:
Im bottom whit highlites of holes that need filled

Alright, well the pic basically just shows you the two vacuum ports (which are screw holes for the secondary rods.. you should be able to spot them if you look) on the bottom side of the LIM.

There is one for each rod, and they are both on the end opposite of the throttle body.

I used the red high temp RTV on the LIM I have now. Been good for three years. I did not fill the entire area in the middle where the rods meet. Just the holes the rod went through. The red RTV takes a couple days to fully cure.

The first one I did I used the JB weld. Put some tape on one side of the hole, filled the hole then let it stand vertically until it cured. But you then have to sand out the mess that it makes.

I used the aluminuim 2 part epoxy that comes in a tube. you cut off the desired piece (looks like clay) and mix it in your hand. Much firmer than JB weld. I rolled it into a thin stick like figure and pshed it in. 10 min later was hard as metal. Dremel cleaned it up...

good luck

On those 2 holes that is where the screw, spring and the ball go in. I was just going to remove the ball and the spring and just leave the screw in it.
