I had my old alternator and old battery changed out last weekend. My old alternator (which had only been installed two monthes prior) was not charging my battery at all after testing it. Well, I took it to a mechanic and he installed a new alternator and a new battery as well. However just today, while coming to stop light I put the clutch in at about 35 or 40 mph, and I completely stall out. Restart, everything seems fine. Once again, coming to another light and putting in the clutch I stall out. It was abruptly, it was slowy. The RPMs would first hit about 1200 from when I depressed the clutch at 4000, and then go on down to 500, then 0. This is the same thing that happened to me when my old alternator wasn't charging the battery.
Well, I figure that the mechanic did not let the computer relearn the idling settings properly, so I disconnected the negative battery cable and reconnected. I turned the motor on and had all the accessories turned off. I let it run for about 3 minutes or so, then drove it around. It seems fine but this whole "dying at a stop light thing" makes me a bit nervous. Can anyone relate to this?

Sounds like your computer just needs time to re-edumacate itself.

shotimes.com has a full procedure on resetting the idle- you're also supposed to run it with all accessories ON.

If that doesn't solve things, look at cleaning/testing your IAC or maybe the MAS.

goodluck!

I'll check out shotimes.com. I just read that all accessories had to be off in the manual, so that's why I did it. I'll give the new procedure a shot.
