Depends on what we are talking about. Is this the relay control module above the radiator or the car computer? People use different acronyms so making sure we are talking about the same thing

is working after you install it and then dies? I wonder if you have a short somewhere. What issues do you have that led up to changing this part.

I'm assuming the OP is referring to the Ignition Control Module, not the CCRM or ECM/PCM. Is any heatsink grease being used when installing on the intake? And like Zoomlater asked, what are your symptoms that's causing you to replace the ICM?

I liked Rod's answer. If this is the part attached to the intake manifold, I had the same problem. Car would not start until I removed it and reinstalled with fresh grease and made sure a good ground. I never replaced it, just removed and reinstalled.

The ignition control module on the side of the intake there is a layer of dielectric grease the nust be applied to the back of it and it grounds directly to the side of the intake just above the battery

Just dies after like a few months it starts popping and misfiring it goes in and out the two middle posts of the ignition module go out and come back then goes out and repeats until it ultimately dies

Its thermal heat sink paste that allows the heat to be transferred to the crossover tube. I use Artic silver. The DIS will fail if it gets too hot. Look up dielectric grease, it's not the same as thermal heat sink paste.

as a rule of thumb I try to have extra used oem DIS, CCRM, and PCM on the shelf whenever possible. Aftermarket electronics are hit and miss. I would contact Dan Barbush SV&HOdan on the forum for used parts. That being said, everything is old and shorting wires are always possible in addition to faulty parts. You can also find used oem DIS units on ebay. They were used in tbirds of that generation if I remember right. People have used dielectric grease with these but thermal paste is really what you need.

I second luigisho in that the used oem parts are a much better option then aftermarket. I work at automotive vehicle electronics manufacturer. 10 years ago when I started here the aftermarket parts ran on the same lines as our OE parts. Now our customers (the mainstream automotive stores) want cheap and don't care about quality. The majority of parts now are sourced from China and the same is true of our major competitors.
