I think my TPS sensor is going out again.

For a few weeks now whenever I put the car in park or neutral, the revs will start climbing and staying at around 1500-2000 rpms and will not come down unless I shut the car off and restart it again. I haven't gotten a CE light yet but I'm sure it's coming and am pretty sure it's the TPS. One other thing I noticed while driving today, the revs would move up and down a few 100 rpms even though I was at a steady cruise. I really couldn't feel anything but the tachometer would move up and down ever so slightly. Any ideas?

It's not the TPS, it's the wires going to it. There's a TSB for it, you can find the details at http://www.v8sho.com use the Google search for 'high idle'. Problem is the TSB kit has gone from like $15 to $100 recently.

Is it the wires at the connector that are bad or further down in the harness?

the rpms moving around while cruising is normal if you are running the AC.(AC/torque convertor...Ford programming)

The wires on the '98-'99 harnesses weren't crimped properly to the terminals in the TPS connectors and can start to overheat and cause resistance issues. You can often see some burning on the insulation about 1cm from the connector.

FWIW, I checked with Ford today, and the list price on the TPS TSB kit is now $77. I'm trying to run down some alternative part numbers that might work and be back in the <$20 price range.

So it is at the connector at the end of the loom? Cannot you get a new connector from Motorcraft and re-fasten it?

Exactly. The TSB kit contains a new TPS connector and about 6" of pigtails. It was under $20 list up until about a month or so ago. I'm pretty sure there is a stand-along connector w/pigtail (without the 1-page of TSB instructions) available, I just need to order one to verify, at $18.67 list.

When I had the TSB kit installed last summer, my mechanic found that someone had already tried to fix it once before, but ended up doing more harm than good. They replaced the harness, and re-routed the wiring. Problem hasn't come back since.

Any luck or a part number?
