Ok, the plot thickens. I took the car to a trusted radiator,A/C shop and left there for them to check the compressor. I called six hours later and was told the compressor was running fine, doing what it should. The lines were the right pressure also, so the tech? says it must be my ECU, no charge. Hmmm. I get in the car to start it, and now the battery light is glowing. I drive up to their shop, go in and ask them about it. They don't have a clue. Fine, I didn't pay anything, but I did have them retighten the neg battery cable they left loose. I drive to the same electrical shop across town, a different guy hooks up his diagnostic machine and says, "The alternator's bad." Ok, I say, you told me last week the alternator was charging like a bull, it must be the compressor. He says things electrical just go out. It's just an unhappy friggin coincedence. The radiator shop which drove my car into their shop without a light glowing said nothing about the now glowing light. Can any of you envision any scenario that may have ruined my alternator with an A/C machine, or is it truly just my as of late bad luck on my favorite car? I'm mad at the impotence of my ability to make a line of incidents that lead to this condition.
