More details please:

Does the engine crank? If no, does it click? Can you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the car to "On"? If it doesn't turn over, can you jumpstart it?

ok... it doesn't crank... clicks but u can bearly hear it if u are very close to the engine with the hood on... i don't know if the fuel pump primers.... maybe it's the sound u hear when u put the key into on ..not start... it does that... and no ucan't jumpstart it

It's like a hum when you turn the key on, but that's not the problem, since the car isn't cranking.

Have someone try to start the car while you smack the starter with a hammer. Also check your wire connections at the starter. When you hit it with a hammer it may start. Your problem is either a bad starter (if you hear the click then the solonoid is working) or a bad connection going to the starter.

It's right below the oil filter at the very front of the engine (front as in towards the front of the car). You can't miss it.

It's barely visible at the very bottom of this pic"

You can't really see it from the top. Slide under the front of the car, look at the oil filter that's right above your head. Look under the oil filter, that round cylinder type thing with some wires going to it is the starter.

*edit* Yes that pic is from a '92 SHO

Let me check...

I don't think they're too hard to replace, do a search and you'll find plenty of threads on the subject.

*edit* From Autozone.com, $109 for a cheap one and $139 for a good one, plus core charge.

First things first. Check the voltage on your battery before you do anything else. If the charge is low it will cause the starter solenoid to make the clicking noise. Don't buy a starter until you're sure that the starter is the problem.

Just curious, since he said "no u can't jumpstart it", wouldn't that rule out the battery? Since it doesn't turn over even with a jumpstart? That's always how I've understood it...

Not necessarily. A really bad battery can cause a no-start even with a jump.

Try disconnecting the battery and jumping directly to the cables to see if that makes a difference.

A starter is not difficult, two bolts hold it on, and then the wire bolts. There's little room to work, btu with a socket wrench and a lot of patience, it's about a 2 hour job max.

Pep Boys has em for about $120. i did mine and it's still going great.

A good way to test when it won't start: have someone sit in the car. Get underneat the front of the car with a tire iron. Have them turn the key to start, and then hit the starter witht he tire iron (a forward jab works best). If the car suddenly turns over like nothing was wrong, it's ur starter. (i had to do that for about two weeks before i could replace mine)
