Uh, oh...another subframe bites the dust?

Those are going to become collector items soon...

Haha, no kidding! They should make "high-performance" subframe replacements or something that comes in a choice of five "fast" colors, haha. Luckily enough, mine isn't rusty as much as it was the recall on the rusty bolt and bushing plates. The recall was only limited to the cars in the "rust belt", correct? This car's from New York, but it's still suffering from poor engineering. I bought the last recall kit my dealer had because they wouldn't do the recall, but today I have a wild hair, I've got the phone in hand to speak to management and see if I can get anything done... And if not, then I've got me some drillin' to have at, hahaha. Thanks for all of your help and input dudes/dudettes/animals.

I called 1-800-392-FORD and got the good ol' American run-around... I just really don't want to have to mess with getting tools together to drill a hole in my floorboard...

Ok, two holes in the passenger floorboard thanks to a guesstimate being off by two or three inches, haha. Now after this I'll hopefully just be back to contending with the engine crap, haha. The pan was SOAKED, though. Like, I could squeeze water from the insulation. I'm pretty sure this isn't supposed to be normal... It seemed fresh, so I'm suspecting a plug I took out near the passenger door to run the power wire for my little amp to be the source. There's a million more things with this car, but I don't want to turn this into a journal of my endeavors with beautifully run down vehicle...

If my thinking is correct, you shouldn't have to drill anything in installing the subframe recall. If you lift the carpet under the dash on the passenger and driver side you will expose the plug that exposes the nut that the subframe retaining bolt comes up through. Simply replace the nut with the one in the kit and thats it - your done with the inside of the car. Then on the underside, replace the old bolt and washer with the new ones in the kit. It shouldn't take more than a half hour per side.

From the factory there are no access plugs to those subframe nuts. If he finds them it means that someone already did the subframe recall.

My bad. I stand corrected.

Well, it looks like mine has been done then! I was under the impression that they came with the access covers from factory and all one had to do was replace the nut and other hardware. Now I have 2 extra recall kits I probably don't need!

I will take a kit off of your hands! haha. Actually, I need that dumb vacuum canister so my secondaries will open up. I don't like my SHO performing like a geo metro...

4/4/07: Got the vacuum canister yesterday from a very cold and windy salvage yard, and it ran a little bit better! It was more of a SHO!

4/5/07: And now it's even more of a SHO 'cause the engine locked up today! So... to finish my epic story that this thread has turned into, of the month and a half that I had this car, it was on the road for three and a half weeks before it completely shit out on me.:hpoop: Yay, right? So much money and time put in this vehicle for this. I hate these cars..........
