Well since some people don't know how to build a motor and cut valves the same height (yeah thats what shims are for but only to a degree), my valves are all different heights and now I can't gap my valves. I have a 2000 series shim in and the shim is still pinned against the cam. Yet some of them have plenty of room and will need some 26-2700 series maybe more I haven't checked many yet. What can I do about this, im going to have to get I guess, some smaller lash caps now for some of them, and take the entire top end of the engine apart again to put them in. This is a kinda question/rant, because I keep catching flack for not having my car done, well my limited time and stuff like this is why.:madflame::rant::mad: :laugh_ti:(pretend hes not laughing and instead pounding the floor screaming god dammit in Eric Cartmans voice):banghd:

Use smaller lash caps and larger shims. I had the problem with some SHOShop cams twice.

Josh has them in stock last time I checked , 1+- size of a lash cap equals to 4 size of shims (100) , so you can play with big gaps with the caps , and the shims are only for the finition.

I think you're gonna need custom lash caps made. That's what I had to do with my +40's. Then I had to go to the local Yamaha dealer and buy some shims at $5 a pop. It was VERY costly for me. Murphy's law I guess.

Is your engine in NJ or Pa?

Similar problem here with stage II shoshop cams. Those turkeys sent me an oddball oversized lash cap that I couldn't gap with a kit. They sent me some more caps but none matched the others. I ended up purchasing a shim towards the end of the spec.

In my 91 we didn't use a single lash cap, all thicker shims. :thumb:

Engine is in NJ ill be in pa in a few days though so no more worky on the engine.

Im going to run down now and pull the lash caps and see if i can get away with just thick shims. I have some gapped at .10 on the intake side, where .15-.25 is supposed to be used. Dumb question i guess but is .10 ok to use (it might be about .13) or should it really be no less then .15? If thats the case I wont be able to get away with just pulling the lash cap as that will yield a 1.6 mm gap meaning ill need a 3600 shim which we all know you can't get.

Anyone have any lash caps they want to sell or trade for mine? Mine measure 3mm and seem to be a 1.5mm lift so ill need one thats got less lift then that probably a 1mm or even smaller if they make that.

My race SHO has a set of the "newer" SHOShop cams. The Stage 1 intake cams have no lash caps, but thick shims. The Stage 2 exhaust cams have 0.035" lash caps (I think those are 0.9mm) with thick shims. Luckily, the shims are "fairly" close to each other in size, not as close as what you get when you cams come from Josh, but a lot closer that most SS cams.

I believe those are common (0.035") , but be careful and take some measurements. I had to replace one of my caps recently and I ended having to machine down the "collar" of the cap because it was making contact with the spring pin. I may have posted something about it here (June 2007?).

The Stage 2 cams use .055 lash caps and the Stage 2 uses .035 lash caps. Try using stage 1 lash caps.

My 40+ came with 0.051 and 0.052 caps. Josh said I could swap them with thinner or thicker ones if needed.

Bring that Yamahammer to PA, and we'll get it right!:thumb:

haha I doubt it will come to that, having to load an engine in my truck again and bring it out there (my truck told me its sick of hauling sho engines around). I think if I get stage 1 lash caps thall fix everything, but thanks for the offer man:thumb:

Im going to see what josh says, I asked him if i could trade the stage 2 lash caps for a smaller one but I didn't order my cams from him so i said i can throw him some money instead, or even a trade and some money. I guess ill change out those .1 measurement valves for the smaller lash cap too to get them right in spec too. What end of spec is better guys? should I have it on the low end or is the middle of spec better? For example the intake spec is .15-.25 should I have it at .15 or .2?
