ok, i have an 89 sho and was fed up with the stupid cable shifter so i found a really good deal on a rod shifter and took advantage($50). I disasembled the cable sh*t and cut the cables and hung up the rod shifter to see that the "well" that the bolt on the stabalizer bar screws in to is cracked in half ! half of it is completelty gone. i cant put the cables back on b/c i cut them . i was thinking about cutting the stabalizer bar and rerouting it to a different hole on the tranny and then welding it because i cant weld it to the tranny (aluminum & steel dont mix  ) so anyways my sho lay dead outside for the time being unable to be shifted . is there anything that can be done ? -thanks

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like you kinda screwed yourself. I wouldn't go hacking up the rod shifter. If there are any threads left in the tranny boss you might be able to find a longer bolt that will thread in. Depends on if there are any threads left and the possibilty of locating a bolt long enough. That's about your only option short of getting another tranny case half.

You maybe able to use a heicoil in that hole. It would require the hole to be drilled out larger tapped and then the heicoil threaded in and then you should be ok.
Do a search around the net or on here and it should help you understand what I am talking about.

Get on your phone and look for a shop that can repair (i.e. TIG weld aluminum) and re-tap the boss for the stabilizer with the tranny in the car, and have your car towed to them.
