This section of for research of commonly asked questions. Do not post problems that you might be experiencing here.....

But you pop the clear lens with a screwdriver or knife or what ever you have alying around and you can get to them. Be careful you are prying them the correct direction as to not brake them.

Moon roof

Oh it's a lot of fun. First you pop out the map light switch/lens from their ends. I use a squared off sharp Exacto knife blade. There's a phillips mounting screw behind each one. Don't drop 'em or they go right into your headliner.
DO NOT pull straight down on the upper console, you'll break the plastic tabs that hold it's metal mounting bracket on. Then you'll learn a whole new way to spell screwed. Pull it to the rear and down at the same time. Now you're really gonna have fun. If your's is like every other SHO in the world, the 4 plastic mounting pins that hold the switch to the console are broken. No glue you can reattach the switch with will hold because of the hot/cold temp changes on the car roof. Not super glue, JB-Weld, two part epoxy, plastic fuser, silicone sealer, nothing, believe me. After a year of screwin' with mine, I veeeery carefully drilled 4 holes in the console corrosponding with the 4 holes in the plastic switch ******, and used 4 billet mini machine screws with mini nuts on top of the switch ******, and it looks like it grew there. That was 15 years ago, still going strong. ;)

mooby, when ya pop out the two maplights and take out the two phillips screws, pull back and down at the same time on the upper console. It will pop off and hang down. Now unplug the electrical connectors to the map lights and motor/switch. Now ya get to play with getting the switch re-attached to the console. I've personally never seen the switches go bad, the plastic tabs moulded into the console that hold the switch just die from age and heat, and the switch falls back into the console when ya push it. You can do this, ya just gotta be carefull and not break the plastic that holds the metal bracket the phillips screws go through to the console. Do that and ya got a world of trouble. There are no new consoles or switches from Ford for 15 years now. This is a job that you only want to do one time. Back in the day I did it about six times, I wes REAL carefull, and REAL lucky. Also, you might use urethane, the stuff to repair bumpers, to re-attach that switch. I never tried that back in the day.

Jason, it will, it's one of the bads 1st and 2nd Gen Taurus' are noted for. Usually give no notice, ya just go to open the hatch one day and and the switch falls up into the upper console. Ya can get a hold on it enough to get the hatch back closed, but ya gotta fix it. If your '95 hasn't done it by now, unless you're the orig owner, it may have already been cured by another owner.
