I have 306,000 mi on my '89. How do you know when it is time to overhaul an engine?

Do I just wait until I hear strange noises or when I see a piston come flying through the hood?

What is a typical overahaul mileage?

Thanks. :salute:

When you are using a huge amount of oil, low compression or bad noises. Other than that just look after it and drive.

Heck, Just paint it,redo the interior, and cosmetically make it perfect and sell it saying it has only 6000 miles. hahaha JK. I know alot of people out there would say it only had 106,000 on it.

original motor? wow.

I go through about 3 to 4 quarts every 3000 mi.

Good or bad?

Yes 306,000 original miles, but I REALLY take care of it. I don't have another car and couldn't afford a new or 2nd car right now.

I use Lubri-Moly products from Germany, heavily endorsed by Volvo and BMW. They make an extended drain interval oil that is heavily endorsed by Volvo and BMW but I don't use it. I use Castrol, 10W-30, Oil for High Mileage Cars every 3,000 mi. And I religiously change it every 3,000 mi.

I do use the Lubri-Moly products such as their radiator flush, valve cleaner, fuel system cleaner, engine flush (oil system), engine treatment (oil system) which you can buy online at retailers that sell parts, products for BMW.

I just keep my fingers crossed. :boink:
