This has been driving me crazy for about a week. I can't sleep at night wondering what's wrong with my SHO. I haven't had a day off and don't get home until dark to check it out. Can't see much then..

Can you experienced forum members tell me if this sounds bad? It's only a light ticking sound but I want to get it fixed before it gets worse.

EDIT: So I just pulled my 3 front plugs and yep....loaded with oil. Guess I'll be replacing my gaskets.

Get this...

I sent my car to a local Ford Dealership for a lower 60k 3,000 miles ago. It's time for another oil change and I notice my car making a funny noise. I look into my plug wells and find oil in the front 3. I'm assuming the rear 3 are the same. Here's the catch; I asked them to check my valve clearance last time which my invoice shows me they completed. I AM NOT BILLED FOR THE NEW VALVE SEALS OR GASKETS, they're not even listed in the parts section of the invoice. I overlooked this 3 months ago but they did not change my valve seals. WTF???? Wait until I get my hands on them.

How much damage could possibly have been done to my engine?

Unless you explicitly asked them to replace the valve cover and plug well seals, you have no beef. I have heard many stories about Ford service departments not even being willing to open up the SHO engine. When they do, for jobs such as the valve gap adjustment, the bill is well over $1000. How much did they charge for that "valve clearance check?"

Isn't it common sense that when you break the seal for the service that it needs to be replaced? You can't re-use those seals once they've been broken. That's like buying a used gasket seal and putting it in your engine.

Doesn't matter anyways cause I went there this morning and spoke with the service manager. He admitted they screwed up and is now going to replace my seals, plugs and wires... gratis.

I learned my lesson though, never take a SHO to a FORD dealership.

Those seals are reusable that's why you have to ask them to replace them. Did they leak prior to the servicing, if not then they may have damaged them. You could either pull the covers and replace them yourself or pull the cover clean them and reinstall them with black rtv in the appropriate places and then some to help them seal.

just sounds like lifter tap from the video
...except there aren't any in the SHO.

From videos like this, it's hard to hear anything out of the ordinary. I honestly didn't hear anything to be alarmed about. Then again, all I really heard is an air rushing sound.

They did not leak at all prior to service, and for all 3 front (maybe all six) plug wells to be saturated with oil, the dealership must have damaged them.

tiiiiiiming belt slapslapslapslapslapslapslapslapslap.

Your timing belt tensioner is shot. Eventually, your timing belt will wear through and disintegrate.

But no worries, it's a non-interference engine. You will be stranded on the side of the road, but no permanent damage will be done.

Get a new timing belt tensioner (please for the love of god don't get it through the dealer) and either change it yourself (not *that* hard) or get it changed. And have a new timing belt put on. You should change it every 60K for manuals, 100K for autos anyway.

Edit: BTW, absolutely nothing to do with valve cover seals/plug well seals, except as indicators of poor past maintenance. Not blaming you. I'm just saying. And yes, valve cover seals can/will leak as little as 5000 miles after installation (ask me how I know )

By his screen name, he has an MTX. They do not have an automatic tensionser. If you hear any noise with the MTX, you should bearing affiliated noises.
