How many gears in a 93 SHO atx?

My overdrive light never lights up. I can feel the car going through four gears when it is upshifting. Pushing the small lower button on the gearshift does nothing and the overdrive light doesn't ever light up. However, I thought pushing the button changed it to three speed. What gives?

The ATX has a 4 speed. What you experiencing is your overdrive is not working.. even if it was working it wouldnt mean that its a 3 speed, it just means that it is in the lowest gear possible for the speed your traveling.

What is the usual deal when overdrive is not working?

I read some info on swaping the PCM for a '94 D4U1 and bought off on that big. Expect to swap that in in about a week or so.

Not because of the overdrive issue but to baby my 93 ATX and get rid of the usual 93 shift pattern.

even though it is a 4speed AXOD-E transmission, it could actually feel like it has 5 forward gears due to the torque converter locking up.
