There is no "normal whine" from an SHO engine.

If it does whine, there is a reason, whether from a new timing belt or from a bearing or whatever. It is not "normal", though.

Only a couple whines mine has ever made:

1. Synchros (I think)
2. New alternator just after install
3. The strange one that increased in pitch, even after I turned the car off, and then it stopped

Has the timing belt been recently changed? My car never had any whining, but since the timing belt was changed it has a slight whine to it. Once the belt gets some miles on it and stretches a bit, the whining should subside, if that is indeed where the whining is coming from.

I would suggest what Steve said. Get a stethoscope and take a listen to it.
