How far does the output shaft, slide into the clutch. I think I must be getting it right on the lip and its just not falling in the splines. I remember seeing an old post about keeping it in gear, and turning the crank a little, but I guess I'm just running out of ideas here.

My biggest problem I think is just that I'm doing this alone, and cant wiggle one without moving the other. I took all the bolts out and it appears to be pretty well lined up. Maybe I'm just not shoving hard enough, but I just dont know, there is really no place to pry the engine toward the tranny. I thought about sitting on the ground, and pushing on the oil pan with my foot, while turning the crank? Wahhh.. lol this is drivin me nutz... :nut: :smash:

put the trans in gear, and turn the diff slowly.. (easier than trying to turn the motor)
It helps if you have another set of hands...

Trying to get the trans to mate to the engine is a task in itself... i still find myself struggling sometimes... and i've done too many.
Just give it some time.... and make small corrections.

EDIT: BTW, the shaft you're refering to is the input shaft. :thumb:

well.. you say turn the diff. I have the right wheel still on the car, can I do that by turning that wheel? I would assume so. But that sounds like a job I can get my woman to do while I try to fight the motor into place. Its just kind of odd i suppose being how the motor is suspended, when i push it forward a little, it raises slightly, just due to the fact of how the hoist is at a bit of an angle.

Also what gear should I use? I would think 4 or 5 would turn it slower? But if she is slowly turning it, and me wiggling / pushing from the front side of the motor, the planets should align and it will slide right into place? Will there be any force pushing back like the pp fingers? I had to yank it a little when I pulled the old motor out, and didnt notice any spring to it. Thanks again tho. Glad to know I'm almost doing something right. :)

First off....you shouldnt have either axle in the trans...
Just put it in any gear... dosent really matter... besides, its kinda hard to get it into anything other than 3rd or 4th, IIRC.
There will be no resistance from the PP. just make sure the TOB/Fork are not in the way.(push levar forward).

EDIT: I would put a jack under the oil pan, with a piece of wood, so that the motor dosent move around. Just dont put ALL of the weight on the jack.

lol well my drivers axle is still in place, and the jack is under my tranny just holding the weight of that. The motor is still swinging on the hoist now. But when you say turn the diff, you mean physically move it I'm assuming? Like roll it side to side? Or rotate it in the plane of the input shaft would be a better way to say it.

Thanks again. :)

i'm SASHO91, we fought to put the trans in for a long time because we were to lazy to pull the passenger side shaft out and finally pulled it, tranny slipped right in. Take 5 minutes, a 10mm wrench and pull the shaft out. I'm sure you'll find it easier.

:) Well I got the passenger side out, its the drivers side that is still in there. I wish it was more like my truck tho, so I could crawl inside the engine bay and man handle this thing.. kinda hard to do standing on the ground. I'm going to try to mess with it a bit, and let you all know how it goes. Thanks again, all of ya! I wouldnt even try to attempt half of this without ya.

The splines arent lining up in the PP, so rotate the diff as if the car were going foward or backwards to turn the input shaft a bit.

Well I can say this.. I just noticed my stupid ps line was hitting the firewall, and keeping me from getting it straight. Now that isn't a problem, and it seems like it should go. Grabbing the top of the tranny and the bottom where the big hole is for the starter, I can get it pretty damn close. Still tinkerin.. came in for coffee. I think i'm going to need a p/s line tho.. i kinda bent it .. :)

Well my g/f isnt man enough to help.. lol and i can't seem to get it.. so I guess I should ask for some help. :( $50 and free dinner... any takers? I would PM green91SHOPlus, but I dont really wanna put him on the spot. :) I'll probally screw around with it some more, but it just takes most of my strength to get the tranny in place, and then Im short a few hands to wiggle the motor.

Thanks again.. I feel defeated, so I'm goin' to sit in the corner now.

I just dont have many mechanically inclined friends.. lol Everyone brings me things from cars, to refridgerators, dryers, hot-tubs, to a cell phone, to see if I can fix it. :) And the only guy I know that is a ''mechanic'' , is apparently intimatated by it, because he isn't around to help. Kinda ****** me off too, because he said he would in trade for me wiring up his house. I coulda been paid $3500-$4000 for his 400 AMP service, but nooooooo.. lol oh well, i'm not bitter.. lol maybe

You sure the clutch disk is oriented correctly? The correct side facing the engine?

If it's reversed, you can get it to line up but not easily.

try lining the tranny up with bolts with their heads cut off (or even studs) threaded into the motor... the tranny can rest/slide on those to make sure it is lined up vertically and horizontally... then push the tranny as close to the motor as you can, and if you lean something heavy against it or you can push on it (twards the motor) and have your "woman" press the clutch pedal in... this will allow the disk to rotate onto the splines, since the PP is not allowing the disk to rotate.. also... she wont get dirty :)

the only downside is that you just ruined three bolts by cutting the heads off of them :(

Make sure that you check the dowel's that are in the back of the block to align the trans. The trans shouldn't be this hard to mate with the block. I just did a 3.2 swap in my daily driver in 4 days by myself. It sounds like something stupid hindering your progress.

Well, I thought I had it all lined up and started the two bolts above the dowels, and when I start to snug them up, the top side of the motor comes and no matter what I do, I cant seem to drop the other side down. I can put the leveler all the way to the front and nothing, Like its binding up or something. I know it was on the front bolt I could see it sitting on top of the hole. :( I would love to get underneath it and move the tranny myself, but the stupid legs from the hoist are in the way.
