I have a question for the audio gurus here, hope I can get some insight.

This is my current setup:

I have a sony deck which has two pairs of RCA pre-outs, one pair for the front and one pair for the rear, it doesn't have a Sub pre-out.

What I did was connect the RCA cables to the Rear pre-outs in the deck to an aftermarket 2 channel AMP (Soundstream) then bridge it and connect the stock subwoofer to it.

What I'd like to do:

In all the stuff that I have for the car I found the JBL AMP for the 4 speakers, I already looked into the diagrams, but I still have a question.

Since my Sony deck only has 2 pairs of pre-outs for Front and Rear and it doesnt have a pair for a subwoofer, can I make a split (connect another RCA cable) on the Rear
pre-out and still have the current setup for the subwoofer and also feed the JBL AMP for the rear speakers out of the same Rear pre-out from the deck?

I hope I made this clear enough, if not I'd see on doing a diagram.

*Edit: I'm not using much of the original car harness. The rear speakers have been rewired

The issue I would consider is the ohms load on the sony, I think the modern units can handle a wider range, but in the older receivers, you could cause them to blow their guts out trying to power too many speakers at once because the ohms load was too low...Not positive, but I have that memory in my old brAin,
Take care and good luck

You can use a pair of rca y cables to split the signal. One going to a 4 channel amp and one going to a sub amp. You can get into voltage output shortage because you are splitting the signal. I would buy a 4 channel amp that has an pre-amp output like whats on your headunit and run my sub amp signal from that. Here is a nice amp with pre-amp output (Pioneer Stage 4 PRS-D4200F). Hope this helps. Bryan

So basically the Ford JBL Amp has a sort of "preout" going out for the sub amp because they interconnect... is that right? I would think the JBL is a 4 channel amp.

What would happen if I dont use the preouts from the Sony and instead I fees the JBL direct from the Sony's speaker wires harness?

I just reread your first post and I might have misunderstood what you were saying. The cheapest you can go about this is buy an amp-bypass and use the internal amp in your Sony deck to power your interior speakers. You will be able to still keep everything else the way they are now.
Only problem I see from that is if you are not using aftermarket speakers in the doors or rear deck the power from the Sony deck might blow the speakers. Also with the Soundstream amp might also blow your sub. Remember factory amps back in the '90s did not put out a lot of power. I would upgrade all speakers and run this setup and forget about the factory amps. If I am still not making sense just pm me.

well actually right now the way all the speakers are connected are directly to the Sony's amp and only the Soundstream is powering the sub.
The rear speakers I believe are aftermarket JBLs, they are 6x9s, and stock rear JBL's are 6x8, right? Front speakers are stock JBLs and I think I'm in the process of blowing up one :/

The rear speakers sound good, that's why I thought I could use the old stock JBL amp to power the front and rears, but didn't know how to feed the sub's amp since the Sony doesn't have a dedicated sub preout and thought it could be possible to me a split from the the Sony to feed both the sub and rear speakers from the Rear preout or somehow feed the sub's amp from the stock JBL amp.

You're already using the head unit to power your speakers so that's good. You can buy an adapter to feed into the stock head unit from the RCA outputs on the receiver but I wouldn't bother with that.

If you want to use aftermarket amp for both main speakers and sub then run both pairs of RCAs to the back. Split the one for the rear with a couple of Y-adapters or, better yet, get an active crossover if you can afford it. I wouldn't worry about the voltage drop from a single split of the RCAs, you just may need to turn the amps up slightly to compensate.

The easiest and coolest way I can think of is to get a full DIN equalizer and put it under the deck. That's one thing I love about the Gen II taurus (double DIN). 2 rca's in, 3 rca's out is how most EQ's are setup, and you get full sub control. They also provide a solid pre amp voltage. If you split the rca's you will drop the line voltage in half which introduces noise into the line. Full DIN equalizer is the way to go.

*UNLESS, the JBL amp you have has a RCA out on it that I don't know about....hmmm then what I posted above is not necessary, but just cool. OK, anyways...
