as the title states im looking to get a higher output alternator on my 93, probably the ones from the 94/95, is that my best bet? How bad is it to change it and is it worth it? Iv read a bunch fo threads about swapping alternators to get higher output ones in the 90 amp cars. I have a 1600 watt amp in my car so im really straing the alternator and its pretty much always charging above 14. When it dies I wanted to replace it with a better one. How should I go about this, or should i just keep replacing it with the 90 amp isince im having no problems now? I am thinking of underglow as well in the future, so that woudl so be a greater strain on my electrical system.

14.4 V is the perfect voltage output on the batt.

Now before you outrun the alternator with your 1600 watts , i really doupt that, That means you would suck up more energy then the alternator is charging , so the batt would be dead in a heartbeat.

so really im fine with the 90 amp alternator? if its sucking that much juice I really need at least 133, however the 1600 watts isnt always being used, the subs arnt constantly on, and the am amp isnt all the way up.

Although its says 1600w it will never draw that for once a milli second. Or you would need over 130 amps at 12v to feed it.

How many amps is the fuse protecting the amp? Output wattage and input amperage are not tied together directly. Always go by the input fuse amperage. Add about 50 amps to keep the engine and all accessories running and 10 A headroom for charging the battery back.after starting.

I am running 3 12" HX2 subs off of a JBL powervalve mono sub amp, and a rockford fosgate 601s for my two infinity component sets in my car and my alternator has been fine, I am fusing 120 amps for the sub amp, and 60 amps for the high amp. My lights dim a bit when I have it turned up, but I have no problems with my electrical system. I would not worry about what you are running in your car. One 30 amp fused amplifier and some lighting won't hurt a thing in your car. Oh, and I've been running this setup for a couple of years with no problems now.

Using the fused value can be misleading too. As long as the fuses are what the manufacture recommends it is OK but that is not always the case.

Even at that the fuses are at least at 125% or 150% of peak power expected.
