I was having a problem with my 95 MTX SHO and since all of you guys have been helpful before, I thought I would post asking for some advice again.

My SHO started idleing hi for some reason. When I start it up in the mournings, it is fine. However when I start driving and come to a stop, the idle stays at 2000-1400 RPM's Sometimes it will return to about 800 RPM's although it drops slowly. What puzzles me is that it doesn't do this all the time, somtimes it will return to like 800 RPM's while I am stopped quickly. I don't know if this helps but the car isn't idling rough or anything. The other day however when I started the car up it was idling up and down quickly at around 1200-1000 RPM's quickly. (I believe right around there, I wasn't paying as much attention to it as I should have) This almost reminded me of the way a car idles with a cam. This however cleared up when I gave it alittle bit of gas.

I don't know if this will help at all to diagnose the problem, but I also had the trannsmission out recently. It never idled highore that, however it did idle up and down quickly at start up once. This was like I mentioned above, siimialr to the idle of a car with a cam but a little faster.

Well I hope you guys can help me out, thanks in advance for you help..

Sounds like an IAC to me.

If it's a vacuum leak, it's probably pretty small, but possible. And the small ones are tough to find.

Run the codes.

Go through the Idle Reset process, just search.

If it still does it, run the codes again.

I know this may sound stupid, but the owner previous to me had installed aftermarket glow gauges. to insall them you have to remove the needles. I thought my car was having idle issues too, and my symtoms were very similar to yours. I brought it to my local garage and they tested it only to find there was nothing wrong??!! So i took off the plastic cover w/ the car on, pulled of the tach. needle, and placed it to the 900 rpm mark. Problem solved! I now know exactly when i'm at redline. However if you did'nt recently upgrade your guages, it's prob your IAC as mentioned above.

Okay, I'm going to check the IAC, do you guys have one in particular that you would reccomend that I buy, or are they all pretty much equal?
