soooo. I originally had an 80mm mass air on my car and 50lb injectors, I just recently put on a 85mm until i can get a 90mm. now i am having idle problems and it cuts off when the clutch is pushed in. it ran and idled fine with the 80 (but sputtered a bit under load) I used the .MAF file for the 85 mm mass air (02GT) and it runs great under boost, but bucks a little when you are cruising at 60 in 4th and 5th gear. any suggestions? And yes i am getting it professionally tuned on the dyno saturday, but i would like to enjoy my car because i have to drive it every day. thanks for any help.
here is the list of mods
GT42 turbo
50lb bosch injectors
255lph fuel pump
adjustable fuel pressure regulator
stage II cams
p/p head w/ oversized valves
honed/extruded intake runners
85mm mass air meter from an 02 GT
tweecer RT
stage 4 clutchmasters racing clutch

How new is the MAF? Is it clean?

The problem could be the MAF itself, or that even though you're running the MAF calibration, it may not be completely accurate, and you may need to go through and start tuning the injectors and MAF again to get it spot on. If this doesn't correct your problem, I would lean toward the MAF being the problem.

yeah it was brand new. the guy took it off his car pretty much as soon as he got it and went supercharged and then put on a 90mm. it runs fantastic under load though. i am not really sure how to make my own curve though...or tune the injectors. I know a bit, like the high/low slopes..but other than that i am lost. any suggetions?

Best think I can suggest is to download and pay for the EEC Analyzer. It will teach you how to adjust the MAF curve to get it tuned. It will even do the math for you. The injector slopes should probably be worked on first, then come back to the MAF.

How is this turbo setup run? Where does the MAF sit?

yeah i had downloaded the eec software (but not paid for the license yet) because i heard it was good from some people and not worth the time from some as well.
here is a pic of the setup

i jsut thought the high slope was the actual injector size and the low was
1.2 x injectors size. i even saw that with larger injectors to go 1.1 x injector size

Did you try the 80mm tune from shonut's site , for your 80mm (before the 85mm swap)?

If you're new to tuning, the EEC A is worth it. I still use it for calibrating the MAF, however, that's all I use it for anymore. When I started tuning about 3 years ago, I relied on it heavily.

well one question. is the 85 worth it to me to buy it from the guy. he told me to try it..and if it worked he wanted 40 dollars. is it going to be tunable by a professional, or should i stick with the 80? i have to pay him today, so i need to know. :)

Usually the 80mm people are speaking of , it's the 80mm off a Mark VIII , which is good for 410hp (I've read that in a mustang mag , take it or leave it)

I don't think the 80mm off a third gen is what you are looking for. And that 85 , I've never seen someone use that , nonetheless it does'nt mean it's not possible.

well i have a 80 from a mark VIII, but it is on our other turbo sho at the moment. and it worked for 404 hp. but you think i should just stick with the GT 85mm. what is the capacity of that?

nevermind. we swapped the mass air sensor from that into the 85mm housing and put the SHONUT mark VIII tune onto it and it idles great now.

Be careful, as there are likely differences in actual flow versus metered flow when swapping electronics from one housing to the other. Probably something you could tune though.

ALso, keep in mind that the 80mm Lincoln is ELECTRONICALLY capable of metering about 400hp, but that is in a DTM config, not a BTM config. Figure as much as a 30% lower limit of accurate measuring capabilities when turning a DTM into BTM.

With the power that your turbo can make, I would seriously consider upgrading to a MAF capable of metering that power. For years, I was jsut dumping a bunch of extra fuel into my system, since I was past what the MAF could actually meter. This probably meant I was leaving 30-40whp on the table.

i just don't think i can get one big enough before i have to go tune it. which is kind of dissapointing, but i guess i can always go bigger when it gets here and retune again later.

a 90mm can be had on ebay or elswhere online for $75. If you are willing to spend $40 on the 85 why not pony up the extra for the 90mm?
