All this meter fun aside, you really need to pull the codes, so we can stop speculating and actually narrow in on the real issue. As I mentioned in my earlier post: Other possibilities include the coil pack, DIS, tps, mafs, plugs, wires, etc. The codes will help you my young padawan...

sorry i didn't peek in here earlier with codes. i've been busy all day with my daughter's elementary school graduation festivities.

@area 91 and pro*banshee; i'm glad you came in with a means of checking the TPS. that was going to be my next question.

@rubydist; i'm going to pull my codes tomorrow and report back in.

Well, i got the new(er) coil in and it made a VAST difference. While it didn't completely solve my problem, it really helped it. Tomorrow i plan on changing the plugs (NGK lasers are in there now and it started to bog when i put them in.) i got some autolite platinum's to throw in there. I got some dielectric grease to put on both ends of the plug wires too. I also have a spare cam sensor laying around (2 actually) that ill try and replace tomorrow as well. My car is going to need a full 60k here soon, so im just going to start with what i can afford right now. Ill post updates tomorrow after the plug change.

OKAY. well. i got the autolite part number APP3924s thrown in and OMG. what a difference. No more hesitation, no more backfiring. From about 2k in first i mashed it and it chirped till 3k and once again when the secondaries opened! :D I put a liberal amount of dielectric grease on both the plug end and coil end of the plug wires and she runs great.. She started up fast and ran smoother and quieter than she did with the NGK's.

So i replaced my coil and my plugs and shes running like a ***** ape! >:)

before i can even get back into fixing the nagging performance problem, i have another problem.

the god damned car broke down on me again. this time i was driving on the highway and all of a sudden i could not accellerate. i could maintain engine speed for the most part but i could not accellerate. slowly the car died down and stalled out over the course of 2 or 3 miles. after it did, i would crank the engine and it would want to turn over but not fire up. it didn't seem like it was the timing belt because i always though when the timing belt goes, that's it. the car dies right on the spot and never even threatens to turn over again. i was thinking maybe since the belt was loose is didn't break but somehow skipped a sprocket and threw the motor out of time or something. but i've never heard of a car doing something like this before. any ideas???

i don't no it isn't actually. some stop leak took care of it. also when my CPS failed last time it was different. the car just cut off period. there was no weird lack of throttle response, etc. also, when the CPS went out, it either started again or didn't. now it NEVER starts and when i try, it really tries to start to the point where i think it's going to but it stalls out.

See the second red hose on the right? Now look to the right of it and that black thing on the front of the TB is the TPS...

i was under the impression that the throttle position sensor did not have enough responsibility to create such a catastrophic failure. it was actually the first thing i thought of due to how oddly the throttle responded. but when i read about it, it seemed like it would be more a pain in the ass than a car stopper.

can a failed TPS possibly create that much of a problem??

It will cause a really jerky throttle....But not be responsible for that much FAIL...Just check your codes....

ok so i rode my bike over to the shop today and pulled the codes. it kept giving the same flashes everytime i rekeyed the ignition and started over. it was odd though. it seemed like there was an extra flash. it kept doing this:

1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-7-2-1-7-6-3-3-2-1-7-2-1-7-6-3-3-2.

this translates to 111, 111, 117, 217, 633, 217, 633, 217, 217, 633, 2.

that made no sense whatsoever. why the **** would there be a leftover number?? then i read on shophoenixproject that it repeats all the codes twice. when i work it backwards from the last flash, it looked like this:

332, 176, 172, 332, 176, 172, 1(extra flash?), 111, 111

i believe there is an extra flash in there after the two 111 codes because it doesn't make sense the way the car spit it out otherwise. sorry for the usual plethora of words and confusion that accompany my every post but this car can be a pain in even it's most simple functions.

172 and 176 are Oxygen sensor codes and 332 is an EGR code. neither one of those things could possibly result in the catastrophic failure this car experienced. FYI, this same system didn't tell me my CPS was out either. apparently either the system is as dumb as a box of rocks or i'm missing something.

I had the same problem then I replaced the CPS that helpd a lot but still bucking a little bit, but it didnt shut off or stall. Then TPS, and the idle air control valve (i think it is) did the trick. both are on the throttle body.
