how do u check if the timeing is correct? i bought a 1991 sho and it has been missfireing since ive had it i have put new valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, bbbs, dis, spark plugs and wires, coil pack, new spout connectors, ect sensor... currently i have no codes and it is jus missfireing horribly.. when we got it we took the timeing cover off and someone before me has already changed the timeing belt.. so thats wat leads me to this im wondering how to check if the timeing may be off.. any help would be much apreciated thanks...:thankyou:

you can check the timing w/o having to pull everything apart - you turn the engine over until the mark on the crank dampener pulley is lined up with the 0 mark on the lower timing cover. then you remove the upper timing cover and look to see that the dots on the 2 cam sprockets are lined up with the marks on the rear timing cover. if all lines up, timing is correct. if not, then timing is not.

I have found that cam timing can be way off w/o causing a misfire, but will cause power to be way down and emissions to be way up.

I would look elsewhere for your miss problem - plug wire routing is a common error, as Eric has suggested.

Like everyone said make sure the firing order is correct. Some repair manuals had the firing order wrong.

I've been having this same problem in my 92. I've replaced almost everythinig trying to figure it out too. Let me know if you figure it out. I checked my timing, and it's perfect, and I'm still having the horrible miss fire. I'm going to change out my injectors this week to see if that may be the problem.

Good luck!
