Help, there's a rust hole in my trunk.

Like the title says, I found a rust hole in my trunk after I pulled the carpet to clean up a gallon of spilled washer fluid. It's on top of the passenger side wheel well.





I can do some stuff in regards to bodywork, but I'm no expert. Anyone have any advice on what I can do to repair this?

You know if the SHO had a pull string (like Woody In Toy Story) it would probably have that phrase in there"There's a rust hole in my trunk". Along with, "Somebody blew a diff pin" and the ever popular, "your my favorite owner"



Anywho, i would cut the affected area out, and then put a patch of sheet metal in there. Then paint it.

My guess is it was created due to water seapage thru dry, cracked sealant at the trough area.
Use some clear rtv to eliminate future leaks.
Wire brush the loose rust then use navel jelly to neutralize the remaining rust.
Rtv a piece of plastic over the hole.
Or take it to a body shop, it shouldn't be too expensive for them to cut out the rust and weld in a patch.

first off,cut the rusted area out around it before it spreads further,its relativly flat so it shouldnt be hard to have a new patch welded in.
btw,is this common? were are the common rust area's on the taurus? besides the rockers,bottom of doors,trunk lid. i've yet to really dig into my sho to find the affected area's. btw,is it common for the strut tower's to rust out?
