HELP! starting problem

Alright guys, my 1995 SHO is giving me problems. Every time I got to start the car, it just turns over and almost fires but dies. It will sometimes backfire also. After about 10-15 tries it finally fires. Most the time though I will not have a tach and my check engine light will be on. Once I get it started she runs fine. I've replaced the ignition switch, crankshaft position sensor, and ignition control module. What else could it possibly be? Does my cam position sensor have anything to do with starting? Thanks guys.

Cam sensor would be likely, I believe that if the cam sensor fails, it starts randomly picking a cylinder to fire and that seems like what you're experiencing.

Fortunatly, the cam sensor is easy and somewhat cheap to get.

I concur with Jeff, but you should also check the EEC codes just to see if there are any other problems. You can get the Wells F134 Camshaft Identification Sensor (CID) from AutoZone for $29.99. It is held onto the passenger end of the rear bank exhaust camshaft by two 5.5mm (7/32") bolts. You only need to move the power steering fluid reservoir aside to get access to it.

Thanks guys. That fixed the problem, except the cam sensor was $100. No problem.
