HELP!: Red Loctite on the Oil Pressure Switch?

Lerking failed...

So my 94 MTX has an Oil Pressure Sender that likes to hemorrhage oil like my drain bolt... and the previous owner installed it with Threadlocker Red.

Is this the common install method? I think I need to buy a soldering iron to get that high up and remove this thing.

Heat is the way.... heat should melt that right outta there... soldering iron wouldnt do it tho... too much heat would be transfered to everything else... propane torch, and the box end of a wrench should do it...

IIRC, I just installed mine with some teflon tape, and a felt washer... I could be wrong tho..

DANG! Time to scrounge for some tools.

I've got to drive for work for the next 3-4 hours with this car in 15 minutes: Bye Bye, oil... :sad:

No worries, I'm not going to let my crank come close to getting dry; I've got a Gallon of 10w-30.

Gorilla it out, clean the threads with a tap (but don't tap the hole any more!), and install new sensor with no threadlocker or PFTE tape.

Looks like theres some sort of threadlocker on a new one.... so one would think you might use a little if you reused one.. then again, they're what $8?

A heat gun set on high works well, and much less chance of setting things on fire. ****, a hair dryer would even get it a little soft. You'd have to use it for a while, though.

No softness involved! Thread lock is a reactant that causes corrosion,that is the principle that,s it based on.Do what racerx n hawkeye said,put some heat to it,grow some **** n get up on it,or Firestone will replace it for 50 bucks labor n it can be their headache!

When I installed my new one from Ford - it had dry red sealant/thread locker on it for install....I think that is normal.

It is probably more rusted/crusted in place.

If its leaking past the threads the thread locker likely did nothing and it will turn out with ease. If you don't have a perfectly clean surface thread locker really doesn't work. And this is only place it would me almost in possible to get free of oil during the install.
