OK....some basic info.....'92 Blue SHO, 5speed w/119 miles. I bought it new, and it runs like a scalded cat.

Recently, I have noticed a slight grinding sound when shifting into 4th or 5th at any RPM. I suspected the syncros for each gear. Yesterday, a new more serious problem......I can't shift into reverse at all, and can only shift into forward gears, after I shut down the power. Then I can drive forward after restart, but still no reverse?

Is this the rod linkage or what? Any and all responses gladly accepted. Thanks.

How's the clutch? does it engage low (pedal right off the floor?)

sounds to me like worn PP fingers, ala so common SHO clutch failure.

or...

how's the fluid level in the tranny?

I'd start with 3 fresh qts of organic ATF, and then go from there...

You didn't say how many miles are on the clutch, but those are classic symptoms of a worn out pressure plate. It's new clutch time. :(

Thanks drivinhard and Dave K. What would be a ball park figure for labor (hours). I can get a clutch,PP,TOB thru SHO NUT for $219 delivered. I just called the local Ford dealer. They said 8.5 hours labor! ($60.00 per) Ouch!!! Thanks. eek!

I wouldn't go through the Ford dealer for clutch replacement, they are way overpriced. I shopped around because I am going to be needing one soon. Yeah Ford knows a lot about the vehicles they make, but a lot of the "underground" clutch shops do it for much cheaper, and I have found them to be more friendlier and more willing to work with you. I came across a shop that quoted me four hours, and yes they knew it was an SHO, and only wanted 280 dollars for labor, there is a 500 dollar out the door clutch job with a warranty. Shop around transmission shops and the like, you'd be surprised at what you will find.....
