Ok,

Got a customers car here that was just brought in the other day. Finally had a chance to look at it today and here's what I know.

The customer decided to put in a used motor himself. The car is a 93 and the donor motor came from a 93. Customer used the same wiring harness that was in the car. Both 3.0L motors. He hooked up everything and the car got no spark, so he called AAA and had it towed here.

Car has fuel pressure, no spark. I started with the coil pack. I removed the coil pack and 3 & 4 has a severe crack on the bottom of the coil. I replaced the coil pack and checked for spark, still had nothing. I noticed a bit of smoke coming from the coil pack area. I removed the coil pack and noticed that some sort of white substance was melting out from underneath the coil pack @ Cyl 3 & 4 again.

It appears that something is shorting out Cyl 3 & 4 in the coil pack. Anyone have any clues/suggestions?

There is your problem. Home brewed swap.

To me it is obvious that wires are crossed somewhere. Start checking for spliced wires... Either that, or yuo have a faulty ground somewhere.

Either way, it is an electrical gremlin. And I hate electrical gremlins :madflame:

Check the DIS and PCM connectors for tightness and free from corrosion.

Home Brewed Swap is it! I knew it was something.........

I also think there are some wires crossed somewhere, I don't see any spliced wires anywhere and I Don't believe that a ground could do this to a coil pack. DIS and PCM connectors are tight and free from corrosion......More searching today......

You might also consider checking out the connections from the battery to relay/starter motor to ignition coil. Check voltages while cranking to see if it's shooting too much voltage into the coil. Maybe swap out the starter to see if something is wrong with that. Also check voltage at the battery.
